Yay! Another game to play
Test #4 : Physics (with PPU)
= FAIL.
:ROTF: :rotf:
They must have thought 'oh snap' when Ageia got gobbled up by nVidia. :D
hmmmm idk...
they should finally make up their mind if they want 3dmark to be a 3d benchmark or a cpu benchmark or a system benchmark.
Pcmark is supposed to be the system benchmark, so they should split 3dmark into a REAL 3d benchmark and maybe launch some new CPU only benchmark.
all this cpu dependency in their last 3dmark series really annoys me...
there isnt a single game that depends that heavily on the cpu... and yes, maybe in some years there will be games that require that much cpu power, but thats not the point of 3dmark. the whole point of 3dmark was to show how gpus can handle future games in the next 1-2 years and how well they can handle the new techniques used in rendering.
2k5 was already off, 2k6 was even more off... i pray that vantage isnt even worse...
but to me it looks like they sold out...
intel wants the bench to show off their quads even tho nobody needs that much processing power, microsoft wants to show of vista even tho nobody likes the new features and performance sucks...
Hmm. Vista only.
Shucks.
So soon
That´s what I have been waiting for :D
Surely Vista and DX10 only had been known about for months?
Agree with the above comments about the over emphasis on CPU though...
Also, with Agea physics now ported to 8 series and above cards, this could end up really favouring Nvidia...
It was the first thing we found out and it's been known since the very start of the development.
Don't think so. If PhysX is to survive, AMD has to be on board. With sole support from NVIDIA, PhysX will fail miserably.Quote:

Thats true... and they have already said it will be an open API. ATi just need to implament it now.
my guess is that all records will be set without running the PPU test
3dmark is supposed to me about the newest and greatest in 3d technology for us end-users. If they would've kept DX9 they wouldn't have really made any real progress now, would they?
You wanna bench your WinXP rig? You have 3dmark 01,03,05 and 06 for that.
Vantage is for people who NOW have the latest and greatest in the industry and can run it (albeit slow) and for people who, in the future, will have something that can run it. You can't hang on to XP forever and expect every application to run on it.
which raises the point will this be enough to kill xp for enthusiast users?
Sooo...ummmm.....what is there to review exactly?
But with 3-4 way GPU setups making up such a small % of a small % of the market (enthusiasts/benchers still being ...~2%) I wouldnt class that as any kind of death-knoll....maybe just a cough that wont go away :p:
I have no problem with future benches being DX10/Vista....all I need is Vista :p:

3DMark Vantage Launch Next Week?
The long awaited Futuremark 3DMark Vantage will be released on April 22nd it has been learned from a picture posted on PCPOP.com. Most notably 3DMark Vantage will differ from previous 3DMark video benchmarks with its DirectX 10 API. DirectX 10 support also means the program will work on Windows Vista only. When started 3DMark Vantage will run through three tests to determine your PC's performance - Jane Nash, Calico and Aeroplanes. If your PC is equipped with an AGEIA PhysX card, there will be a fourth test for physics only. The full list of all NVIDIA/ATI video cards capable of running 3DMark Vantage can be found here. An online test to see if your PC is up to the task for 3DMark vantage is also running online.

AFAIK yes, it'll be like 3D M06.
Two CPU tests, only this time the CPU tests won't be the same, the one will have to do with physics.
I could be wrong, because these are unofficial info and from a long time ago.
I've got no confirmed info about the tests.
Only thing I know is that I'll have a running version soon.
