ATI Radeon HD 4000 Series discussion

finally, confirmed~! looks fairly decent. would have hoped for maybe a bigger bus, and more rops, but we ll see how it performs i guess.

300 USD? good :) I'll buy one HD-4870. my X1950 Pro has become to slow to serve my 22" WS...

Bigger bus?! What for?
At 2200MHz (4400Mhz DDR), the 4870 has a bandwidth of 140GB/s. That's about twice the bandwidth of a 3870, and more than the 512bit 2900XT.
There's also something that's not been quoted from vr-zone:
Quote:
55nm TSMC process
480 SP (4D+1D) - 1D consists of 96 SP
32 TMU
800-900MHz core clock
PCB design similar to RV670
Replace current RV670 price point
I wonder what they mean about that "4D+1D". Is it that every group of five SPs has a more complete unit like the R6xx?
Those 32 TMUs at 1050Mhz will rock, if this is confirmed :)
-
Make them work with 38xx series in Crossfire, and I will never go back to Nvidia.

Its precisely as today. R600/RV670 is 64SP that is 4+1. With marketing it becomes 320 (nVidia should be 256 then). So its simply a 50% SP increase over the 600 series.
-
are we still talking november for these?

Late Q2 or early Q3.
Original thought was June but current rumors seem to state a small delay, a month or two. We should hear more info in the coming month.

No its not. Its 5 scalars for all R6xx products. The only Unified core so far that was 4+1 was Xenos.

Early reports stated AMD was not planning on a new GPU until 2009. Now there are reports if it coming out in June....

50% more shaders at 50% higher clock combined with 100% more memory bandwidth than the 3870...WOW!
Let alone the 4870X2, If the specs of 4870X1 are true, that card will wipe the floor with the best cards we have nowadays. And it will be priced @ <$300.
The 4870 looks like the "must have" replacement for my 8800GTS-g92.
nVidia will have to do a lot more then changing the PCB and renaming the 88xx with higher(98xx) numbers. I wonder what are the specs of their 55nm g92(read g80) shrink. I hope it is not another 9xxx joke.

4870 LOOK GREAT Performance/Price card

something to look forward to.

4850 looks good for the overclocker. This certainly looks better than nvidia's dieshrink / increase clocks option for that time frame.

ill take one of the 4870x2's please guv'nor

Actually, this "news" is very old and from NHW regarding some specs from Hartware.de.
here´s the old news: http://www.nordichardware.com/news,7356.html
THIS IS JUST A 1:1 COPY OF A OLD NEWS!

I always read the "prelim" specs with a touch of salt as you all do I'm sure. IF true, would be very nice in Crossfire on either x38/x48 or Nehalem board.
Thanks Met.

Prices have also been misinterpreted so many times now I regret posting them there. They are NOT MSRP, they are internal AMD guidelines for which segment the GPU should end up in.
Lock or merge with old thread. Nothing to see here.

I'm very sceptic about those numbers... A HD 4870 has 50% more SPs, 50% higher clocks and twice as much RAM - and yet AMD still manages to magically stay in the power envelope of the HD 3870 (on the same 55nm process). Doubtful at best IMHO.

Isn't that core-picture in the vr-zone forum the old fake?
-
the fact that they only want $299 for a 4870 is a bad sign lol, but ill keep the hope that these cards can play crysis.
