Corsair HX1000 announced

I hope they use a decent fan this time. Loved the HX series so far, quietest PSU in town. But they did have awful problems with QA, I got like 3 out of 10 with a defective (noisy) fan :(

Well this should make for a quality fan.

Well, not neccessarily. If this is made by CWT (like the TX750) and uses a 140mm fan (again like the TX750), it will probably be the same one. Being a Yate Loon D14-BH. That's a ball-bearing 140mm fan running a full 2800 (!) rpm at 12V. In the TX750, they run that thing at around 4V starting, so it's never under 900rpm which is quite annoying.
But since this PSU clearly isn't supposed to be silent - unlike the TX - I guess it's ok... won't have any defective fans at least.

This platform doesn't really compare easily to the TX750 though... it'll take a fair bit more load to get that fan up to full speed. While the TX750 is based on the CWT PSH line, this one's based on the PUC units like the one I'm running in my main rig. It should compare more easily to its cousin in the Thermaltake Toughpower 1kW.

Are you sure it's 4V? Did you get that number of SPCR or measure it yourself? That's quite low for a fan like that to even start spinning. Typical is about 6V.

I got the fan info by tearing apart 2 TX750 units and removing the fan. Looked it up on yateloon.com and could hardly believe the specs. Voltage was measured by me, I think it was even less than 4V - 3,87 or something if I remember correctly. Sound/airflow levels also matched those of a 140mm fan running at ~900.

The smaller HX also start at such a low voltage, see SPCR.com - nearly every medium and high speed fan can safely start at ~4V so it's not that uncommon. I even have 1000rpm 120mm fans that start at 3,5V... Coolteks :O

I'm not doubting that fans can start that low. I have Globe 138MM fans that start with 3V. It's just not common and I didn't think the fan controller inside the Corsair started the fan at such low voltage. Usually the fans just twitch and never spin. I've got friends at Corsair that I can just ask to confirm though. Thanks.

While doing that, could you ask them why in god's name they used a 2800 rpm fan for the TX750? This PSU would be just great if it weren't for an oversized fan... the D14-BM would have been just fine at half the BH's rpm.
Oh and it's also a pain in the ass to swap fans... you need to solder a matching 5W resistor in parallel (56ohms in my case) so that the stupid PSU won't shut itself down after two seconds...

Probably some logic in the fan controller that's meant to protect the unit in case of fan failure.

thats a very nice psu, 1000watts at 50c....under load it would pull 900watts? my psu doesn't do 50c lol

What is wrong with a modular unit? It does not make a unit perform any worse, unless you belive that PCP&C fud...
