Lawl @ [H]

Disclaimer: This is purely my experience, and obviously this isn't meant as an XS vs. [H] forum war thing.

I was a regular on the [H]ardforums for about the past year. They were my main source of tech news and reviews. I'd help people with problems, and contribute to the general knowledge there.

Then I noticed that around the time of their 3870x2 review, there were a lot more people showing up as "Banned" in the threads I'd read. "No matter" I thought, they must've done something wrong. More and more criticism poured onto Kyle, and he would ban more and more people. I defended his x2 review and previous reviews initially, until he started to be so stubborn and hardheaded that he was unwilling to run some simple tests or double check his numbers to confirm they were accurate.

I didn't want to be blindly defending the laughing stock of the review world, so I asked some simple questions and hoped Kyle could swoop in and answer them. Instead, they were ignored, and eventually the thread for his review feedback was locked.

Then, about a week ago, I posted in the forums, saying that some user in the thread was "clueless" on a particular topic, in a forum thread. Kyle banned us both for verbal abuse for ... get this... a WEEK. Yes, I contributed to the community for a year, then arbitrarily get banned for a week for calling someone clueless. Talk about censorship. So, upon my return, I kindly PM'd him to let him know that I didn't appreciate that kind of treatment, and I would appreciate if he could admit he over-reacted by banning me for a week. Maybe even apologize in pm:

Ya, you're a pretty poor reviewer/site admin. All the time I've wasted on your forums trying to educate and correct your largely (though not completely) clueless community has been a waste.

And you're just a :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing :banana::banana::banana::banana:. You can feel free to ban me, I won't waste my time on your site or forums anymore. Sites like xtremesystems have better content and news, and the community is actually knowledgeable there.

Now I know why you have such a poor community.. you ban the regulars who know their :banana::banana::banana::banana:, and you're left with people new to computers and console kiddies. Enjoy continuing to be the site that everyone laughs at.

This immature behavior, combined with poor review style and a largely uneducated community led me to swear off his bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: and look for better sites (like XS).

I'm curious, has anyone else had this kind of experience with their site? It's really a sad thing.

[H] has drawn criticism for a while on how they review ATi video cards...:shakes: I don't agree with how they always have the ATi card have lower image quality settings than the NVIDIA cards.

And then they post an article on "benchmarking the benchmarks", basically saying that their method is the right method :rofl:


I'll go there to look at their reviews and such, but there is definitely better sites to go to for reviews.

There are many prominent members of this forum and other forums who are, or have been banned at the [H] without reason. It's a good time.

Same story at EOCF. I used to contribute bigtime in the videocard section, was a "guru" there for a while. People would PM me all the time what cards to buy and so on. Then I slipped once, posting an "owned"-picture that crossed the line due to sexual content (you know you'd have like it :D) and they ban me permanently. Good job EOCF. It's fun to see that a lot of my thread's and sticky's still were active for months after, and one thread even survived a whole year while I was banned.

Good to know I'm not alone.

I can understand when someone goes way out of line, you issue a warning, or tell them in PM "hey guy, chill out"

But I'd never run a site like these guys..

There was only one thing any good I've ever seen there... and that was a Massive Case Mod by a guy from Holland. Forget his name. But it was Legendary. I think thats the forum. Anyway there is no reason to go beyond this place. Well maybe to meet girls you might have to log off once in a while... but for everyhting else.. theres XS.

I got permabanned from Overclock.net for giving too much rep without a reason.

I'm glad I was now, because I never would have joined XS if I weren't.

I got banned from HWI once, because of posting a link to XS with the first conroe benchmark results. In that time the admins where die-hard AMD fanboys and didn't find XS an reliable source. They didn't believe Conroe would pwn there lovely amd rigs. Me and some others got banned only for that :down:

Which means none of us fit in there :rofl:

got banned back in '03 for calling out fake benchmark tests in reviews. I thought it was hilarious what happened. The backlash ended up in "Benchmarking the Benchmarks", which was more bull:banana::banana::banana::banana:.

Pile it on, Kyle. Gotta grow the n00bs that feed us, I guess.

I don't bother with the Forums over at [H]. Most of the people know next to nothing.
But something extremely similar happened to crew over at Tom's, needless to say we have all moved on...

I live in Vegas and came across his closed sets, the people are all shills for reaction. The main participants are all in on the gag.

Its all fake other than the hooks in the skin, that may have been his start and finish.

I think the biggest difference for me is the overall attitude of this site compared to toms or [H]. all of the forums have some great members and very informative threads.

whenever I log-on XS is my first stop. FUGGER and the staff have made this into an absolutely awesome place to be. the fact that most of the top benchers and the people who are brand new to overclocking can communicate like equals here really makes me feel at home. Most other sites have an "elitist" attitude that doesn't sit well with me.

I have seen kyles attitude enough to know that nothing he says carries any weight with me.

To add to the story;

I went to an Nvidia launch party and was seated next to Kyle, being polite and friendly I asked to be unbanned and he said NO. I asked, do you know why you banned me? He said, yes. you called me a liar. Everyone at the table took notice. I said, you posted up benches that were at a slower speed claiming they were at 4.4Ghz. He then got up and said, now you are calling me a liar to my face. Everyone at the table asked Kyle to calm down. Kyle left the table and walked out.

Stupid me, I went over to Kyle and said sorry, didnt mean to upset you. He told me to piss off and left.

A few other manufactures and quite a few top sites were present, It was a golden moment.
