2GB G.Skill F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK - 8 layer PCB + DFI LT X38-T2R
Thanks to folks at G.Skill got a new DDR2 kit of memory to play with - 2x1GB G.Skill F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK 8 layer PCB dual channel kit. All that I have been told is that these use non-Micron D9 ICs but not sure what they use but they seem to perform very well so far :)

CAS4 Results

Looks like 490mhz 4-4-4-12 is the limit at 2.19v bios set vdimm. Setting CAS5 as in 5-4-4-12/15 didn't help but it could do 5-5-4-x easily at higher clocks. 2.23-2.27v vdimm allowed less memtest86+ v2.00 errors but still were a few when looping test #5.

Hmm interesting, some of those mira chips probably. How they clock cas4? It is gunna be tough to find something that will bench better than D9, low voltage stuff just cant handle the tight secondaries.

I think manus are getting tired of all the D9 RMAs, this is likely the solution. OCZ did the same replacement.

Have you also found by any chance that these sticks don't like running less than 2.0v? I haven't done all of my testing yet, but I recall trying 1.9v at 800MHz 5-5-5 and they would not boot.

Eva, you can probably just pull the heatspreaders right off. G.Skill only uses thermal pads, not thermal tape or glue.

I actually did that with my 8000-PQ sticks when pulling them out of my MSI Neo2-FR, as the slots are really tight for some reason. Tough to pull any of my sticks out of the MSI slots.

only Gskill PC2-8000 I tried was their 2x2GB 2GBPQ modules but definitely these 8500CL5D-2GBPK clock nicely

These modules are stuck very tight from what i can see - the contact with ICs is very firm and well been kindly asked not to take the HS off so I don't intend to unless given permission to do so - hope ya understand :)

You are lucky, Ive had 12Gb die, some which never saw >2.2v and always 120mm fan. Bud luck? Who knows, but low voltage mem may last longer.

Cas5 sure is the way to go on this kit huh.

Haven't tested max CAS5 yet so far 600mhz 5-5-5-15 at 2.1v dual 32M stable. More volts only tried 2.27v max but didn't help for 500mhz 4-4-4-12, loosen tRAS didn't help. PL 6 didn't help either.

Yup CAS5 way to go.. I can probably see these ICs in everything from CAS4 PC2-6400 through to 5-5-5-15 rated PC2-8000/8500/9200/9600 later on.. sucks for the enthusiast overclocker though looking for crucial ballistix like flexibility between CAS4 vs CAS5 clocking :( But good for those folks wanting value. No idea how voltage effects these modules' life spans yet though I guess.

That and a daily sacrifice to the ram gods :D

If this is the start for new ICs, hopefully further improvements in the process can raise the max CAS4 clocking headroom :)

excellent advice, this is how i work as well but always just take it for granted. never had a kit just die on me or go south that wasn't a direct result of pushing too much voltage on a 32M run for the Low Clock Challenge...but that pair will stay with me forever, good old Super Talent PC2-8000 C4s, they were such a good kit to me ;)
