HR03-GT vs VF1000

Currently my 8800GTS 320MB has a HR03-Plus and the main problem i face is that the fan intake is chocked since i have an X-Fi card on the bottom, a friend of mine wants to buy my 8800GTS and so i will replace it with a 8800GT and im wondering if its still worth it to invest on a HR03-GT or rather i should get the VF1000 considering the chocked fan situation, I was able to do a table testing before and my idle temps were like 43~45 w/o the sound card on the botton and no its between 53~55c idle with the sound card, And im thinking that the VF1000 might be on the same performance level or even better considering my situation

have you tried mounting the cooler over the card? that way the fan is on top of the card rather than bellow

im in the same boat as you demo, a while back i intend to bend the heatpipes on the hr03 so that it is above the xfi card - just havent got round to it yet

heres a pic that someone else has done. from what i read the heatpipes bend easily but emphasised to bend slowly and patiently. heating the pipes would also aid bending

and mounting the HR03 in reverse is not an option for most including me, theres room between the card and TRUE for the heatsink but not for a fan. and i dont need to iterate how hot it will get or what it will do to cpu temps

Get the VF1000, there is only a 1/2degree load diff between the two and the Thermalright takes up tons of space and costs even more and then you need to buy a fan.

I think you should just buy a g92 gts instead, the cooler on that has a heatpipe and from what I hear does a good enough job to make it worth the price difference (plus they come with higher clocks and a few extra shaders which is nice for games like crysis that use them)

The difference in price for the GTS (G92) isnt worth it for me, I think i should go the VF1000 route instead.

Seriously, even though I don't use one, I can understand those who do, compared to onboard sound it's far superior. But, it does choke the fan on TR HR-03's.
I had an 8800GT and returned it to get a GTS, not because the GT was so bad, it was a good card. But the GTS is just that much better. Although I use an HR-03GT, I did find that the stock 2-slot cooler on the GTS was very good for a stock cooler. The price difference if you bought a GTS instead of a GT and didn't buy a VF-1000 would not be much, and you could always get one later:cool:

We already have it on the last slot, the HR03 is a 4slot cooler.

Well then, the VF-1000 seems like the right choice for you. Slap that on a GT and you'll have a good card with great cooling, all in a nice slim package:up:

Im impressed with Palit's stock cooler, i idle at 51c and load at 65c and thats at 50% fan speed.

Just got my VF1000's on my 2 8800GT SC's, @ SSC speeds, 700Mhz, 1Ghz mem, the card idles around 30C and never goes past 55C @ full speed, and even at full speed it is not that loud. Even at low speed, the card idles at around 33-34C, great heatsink and it looks nice to boot

just a shame that the nickel plated version doesnt come with a Blue LED fan but a stupid red one.

the fans can be replaced, sharkacomputers carries em, not sure if they all fit, but they should.

Yea so i just found outmyself whilst having a browse. Im pretty certain that the blue 80mm VF900 fan should work with the GV1000.

If anyone knows if that would be a compatible fan ?

Where did you find the nickel plated versions? I've been looking around and haven't seen em anywhere, not for a reasonable price atleast. The copper ones are on sale @ sharka for $45, cheapest price I've seen. It looks like it would fit, the VF1000 uses a mounting bracket to clip the fan on, but I'm pretty sure the fan detaches from that bracket

Im in the UK, I have only seen the nickel one at 2 places so far :)

Get the HR-03GT version ;)

yes we already went over that, however due to the fact that it takes up multiple slots even running passive, its probably no longer up for consideration. Even if he were to use it, it would only be a few degrees difference
