casecon... HELP!
Well, i have modelled this casecon in sketchup, and i wanna build it in alu... any suggestions? color theme? :D
the alu plates are supposed to be 3mm... what do u think about that? and any ideas of a different ways to assemble it instead of using these 5x5mm "sticks" and L shapes?

So, you are making a taller Lian Li? Looks very nice. Like how its separated for rads and PSUs with the central stuff in the middle. But, I think you can make something a bit more original than just copying a Lian Li design. Make the Mobo tray removeable (looks like it is) and make it reversible to BTX and ATX formats. Most OEM cases are spot welded and pop riveted so I would just go that route.

If you plan on making this case from scratch, you probably have (better have) a plethora of tools to use. I would say use a metal brake and put a 90 degree turn on each side then pop-rivet the edges in order to fasten the case together. Like normal cases. If you don't have a metal brake then get two flat pieces of wood, (like two 2x4's)screw them together flush EXTREMELY tight so the metal can not move at all and push (or hammer) the side to a 90 degree angle. With 3mm aluminum this is probably going to be tough... a lot of cases are built with 1 and 2 mm aluminum.
OR you could go the simple route and get a TJ07
It looks basically just like what you are making, except it doesn't have the extended top. The top is not really needed anyways because the radiator can fit easily in the bottom section.
Hope I helped some...

well then i think i will go for the pop-rivets... i may also screw it all together (not up :D) to make it easier to disassemble etc. again... wtf
i do have a metal brake (or bender?!) avaliable, so i will go for that metod, and i do too have a TJ07:yepp: but somehow... i think it is nice as a "gaming" pc, but i haven't got the guts to possibly screw up my new 300$ case...

Yeah, I meant silverstone, but then I deleted that and put Lian Li. :fact:
Anyway. I think it would be great if you could make the top and bottom accept 360 rads vertical so the air could blow in one side, and out the other. This would keep any heat from getting to the central part. Could put the pumps in the central part. Problem would be the PSUs I suppose. Dont know how long the big PSUs are but could orient it in the front of the case below the 3.5" bays. Then it could suck air in through the front. You could then relocate the pumps and resivoirs to the top or bottom.

i have now ordered 3 square meters of 2mm alu and a piece of 3mm (2,2m x 25 cm).... update tuesday ^^

good luck :) If you can pull this off w/o a metal brake then MAD props.
-
i will use a metal brake for all that bending, what do u guys think about making the case in 3 seperate parts?

well i have now recieved the alu and... i have only got the half of it for the double price... but i think thats the general price for alu...!
however, these plates are kinda scratched, and i started out with sanding them with grit 240. nice ^^
bending a 1cm piece in a angle of 90 degrees when the alu is 3mm thick is...:banana::banana::banana:ING HARD!!! even with a good metal brake... its probably kinda overkill too 2 use 3mm for the drive cages, but wtf, its gonna be stable as hell :p:
afterwards, using some polish really helped... i cant decide if i should polish it better and leave it so, or just paint it... what do u guys think?

building started... its taking form, ´but the assembly is the minor job, sanding, painting, correcting & fine tuning will take its time (which i will give it^^)
i have changed some things in the design too...
please comment^^

i have been working on the con for 6 hours today, however i dont feel i made a lot ^^
i have sawed top & bottom out with jigsaw and a piece of totally straight wood as a guide. however, before the 2 last cuts, something screwed up, and i had some issues to get it all to fit... but i think it has turned out pretty good^^

Great job!!!!!!!!!!
I admire u!
Although i think the whole thing will end up more expensive from a very good case. But it will be unique! And ENORMOUS! Keep UP!
-
thanks man... u make it worth building this^^
today i have drilled all the rivets out again (!!!) and sawed hole for the 5,25" bays, and made the MB holder... and the case is so desassembled that a picture would look like a bunch of old alu^^
anyways... :yepp:

Update!!!
i have been into some really precise work the last days with fitting a motherboard tray and a backplate.... and today i figured out, that i had to cut in the main construction to fit 2 PSUs in the case... (hadn't thought about the rivets in sketchup :D )
My old s 478 CELERON (dont know what took me when i bought it...)

That looks really good. Keep in mind with powersupplies with 120mm fans that the fan would would be up against the other power supply. What is all over the back of the case?
Other than that, AMAZING
-
Good to see others going out on their own.
Anxious to see this bad boy finished.
-
120mm fans will be facing outside and it will be possible to mount only 1 PSU for better ventilation, i will make 2 brackets... the stuff on the back is... well i really dont know what it is, they came like that from the factory
maybe some of u could give me a answer in this tread:http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=178367
the top of the tower is meant to hold a dual loop, but i dont know which components to put in there

lookz great man :)
keep working

Simply amazing. For better or worse, you have inspired me to make myself a case. But I'm sure it won't be as good as yours.
-
Thanks for the nice words everybody :)
I might be getting some more alu today, i still need 1,5 square meters 3mm...
I have been testing the first pump for a hour i think, it runs nicely (and xtremely quiet compared to that of a Bigwater 745 xD) and i will be leak testing rads and so on in the weekend... I really like my homemade testing res^^ a fillport, a drill and a old glass :D
