Retailer starting to modify the reference card, hmmm... I don't need a shorter in my big towers. Hope one comes with a 2 GB version (2 x 1 GB) on full length PCB of course.
I'm just waiting for them to figure out that they could use the backside fo the cards better... place one die and set of ramsinks on one side and the other on the opposite... MUCH easier to cool when you can use twice the number of heatsinks.
i wonder how well it ocs... nice to see that its possible to get an even small er pcb working. compare this to nvidias huge 2 pcbs clamped together :lol:
Should OC pretty good If It's anything like the 3870. I can only imagine this thing with 1ghz core volt modded and WC'ed as I've seen people do with the 3870's.

@ topic : length does not matter for me, but this cooling does not look quiet at 200W....
i want 3 slot super silent with hot air out of case + faster vram
Also no cooling on that bridge chip? All other versions seem to have gone out of there way to cool it...
Hopefully with this non-reference design it will be possible to run seperate GPU blocks instead of the full card blocks, as this seems not possible with the reference design.

Wow. I thought they were already using up as much space possible on the Ref version? I suppose that's not true. That card does look a lot shorter.
Does this DuOrb or whatever it is called make a difference over stock cooler? With the memory speed lock and I assume the core is locked at 998 or something, the stock cooler seems entirely adequate
Is there any advantage using the shorter design besides space?
FYI the power color short version ala non reference is they're OC'ed version......As far as the bridge chip they state it doesn't run hot, on the reference design I'm guessing that it needs cooling sandwiched between the heat of the 2 cores......
I'm probably just seeing things but doesn't it look like one of the GPU cores are exposed?
