MCP655-B mod needed

Some one know a way to make this pump stronger? We know this pump is limited to setting 4, while other version has setting 5.

Someone could help me on this? Or the only way to have more flow is buying the another model?

I want to do this coz' messing around with martin's estimator I saw a considerable flow drop with the GPU block I'm planning to buy:

get 2 of martins elbows and call it a day hehe. Not sure on how to mod that pump though mebe some1 can here can help you though.

You are between "Good" and "Great" on the flow graph - nothing to worry about.

Flow is over-rated, As long as you over over 1GPM then the performance will be negligible

There's almost no difference between 4 and 5. At least i can't notice any difference, just like some other forum members.

Martinm210 also modded a D5 (dont know if he still uses it) but he used a dremel and rounded the sharp edges off on the inside. I will try to search for it for you.... yes - and here it is

If it was good enough for Martinm210 it was good enough for me and I have since done to same to mine.... I have nothing to measure performance with - so I hope it was for the good! :)

But your flow looks really good and I would not stress it...

Until someone can take the DMM readings on a vario at setting 5, work out what resistor needs adding you're sool.

What Jedda is trying to say is that we will have to wait for someone to test to see what resistor is needed in order to achieve the speed of the setting 5 for non-vario's. The second part he is using US slang roughly and nicely tranlslated - " Until the time that someone test's the D5 - you will be Sh*t Out Of Luck - or nicer version of So Out Of Luck "
No worries - we will just have to wait until someone posts how to mod the electrical side so that the non-varios can achieve that elusive speed setting of "5" But with it being so close - I dont think there is much intrest in it, for what ever the reason.

The nuber on the side of the pot "103" means that is a 10K pot...but there are 2 marks on PCB for 2 resistors under the pot...looking at PCB lines looks like the resistors are in paralel with the pot.

But I need to know if the resistors are there or not.

Biddy,

You need to buy another D5 Vario pump and run them in series, back to back. You will have more head pressure and you will also have redundancy in case of pump failure.

If someone can pull this mod, it would be beneficial for everyone. I'm also curious how it works.

I think someone need to have enough balls and unsolder the POT of the Vario to see if there is resistors under it or bring the Vario to a electronics repair store and ask for some ideas. What the POT do is vary the resistance amount and I guess that to make it faster, you may need to decrease the resistance but the lack of resistance made me confused... Don't shoot me because electronics and me isn't a nice marriage.

This would help me out tremendously as well and I have googled this to no end.
My B pump is substantially weaker than my other D5.

EK is making a top for this pump I believe.. could always just wait.

But you won't get any extra performance out of this, so I wouldn't bother with any serious modding.

And the mod trick was the smooth out the outlet bore in the inside. By reducing the sharp edges you get less resistance and hence more head output and better flow.

I havent dont it yet, i was thinkn of retiring all my 655's. There honestly too big, and for a little bigger you can get the rd-30. :T

I've done the outlet polishing mod while ago heheh.
If you drop the 655s what will you use? MCP355 + Petras top? Are they smaller than 655? I telling this coz' MCP655 doesn't looks so big in pictures, but when it arrived here I looked at that and "oh boy, where I should put that thing now?"

If nothing works maybe I'll retire that pump and buy a MCP355 + Petras top...
