the VID range for these cpu is up to 1.3625, where as the 65nm, got a VID range up to 1.50, and for the rule of a tumb, up to 1.50v is safe for 65nm, 24/7 with proper cooling, but how about 45nm?, does this mean for 45nm chips @ 1.3625v is like 1.50v for 65nm? So what is basicly the max vcore for these chips 24/7( Air), or it is to early to say lol and we need to wait untill some1 reports their cpu is dead.
prob 1.55-1.6v is the max you should go for either 45nm or 65nm on air or water cooling.

Table 3 lists Vcore max E8000 series at 1.45v.
They state operating above 1.45v can cause the device to "either not function, or its reliability will be severely degraded."
They state operating above functional limit ?VID max but at or below 1.45v the "device may be functional, but with its lifetime degraded".
Compare that to Intel spec for E6000 series - page 20

Vcore max is 1.55V, and they give same warnings, that above 1.55V can kill the chip, 1.55V and less to functional limit ?VID max can degrade the chip.
Basically looks like 1.45 Vcore on E8000 series is equivalent degradation wise to 1.55 Vcore on E6000 series. Personally for 24/7 I will try to stay at or below 1.4 on E8000, like 1.5 was max for me 24/7 on E6850.
Great find, think thats sounds reasonable, 1.40vcore for 24/7 use.

i have been running my E6600 since the day it released at 1.55v - i havent seen any degredation as of yet.

It's also 65nm, whereas the E8x00 series are 45nm; this means that they can't take as much voltage. I wouldn't put anymore than 1.45V on any 45nm chip, no matter what kind of cooling you use. (Unless your benching).Quote:

F'ing agreed. Crying about losing an E8400 is sad, either run it at 1.4v and be happy with 4GHz or blast the hell out of it and realize your chip will be dead in a short period of time. People fail to realize these chips are 45nm and 65nm volts are not safe or even required.Quote:

24/7 1.40v or 1.45v?

My E8400 primes all night with 1.26V after droop with a 1.31v set in the bios. Temps climb to 63C with my somewhat small heatpipe air cooler, but I'm calling it good, haha. I benched sandra with it at 4200 but the 468fsb was too much for my $25.00 OCZ ram (after rebate) from newegg. It runs hellish 4, 4,4, 12 though all the way!!! Its even 5, 5, 5 15 spec'd! I would probably keep them at or under 1.4 Vcore IF you plan on keeping it a long time, but it will not degrtade fast enough with higher voltage unless you are a person who runs insane volts then lets their machine do folding@home 24/7. I prefer the savings in my electric bill ;-).
are the thermal specs the same between the e6 serries and the e8 series?
