Naked, 2x 1HP cascade

I move this cascade from this topic : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=166418&page=3, becasue this contest finished :) .

This is quite ordinary cascade - metal baseplate, plate HX, R507/R1150, 4 gauges ...but it finally have 2x 12000 BTU,1HP compressors, not ordinary for me 9000-11000 BTU :D .

Specs :

compressors: Sanyo remark C-RN110H5A around 12000 BTU so 1HP on both stages
evap: steeper
XVes: ALCO TI-HW (designed for R22, but I bet it'll be working well with R507) + nozzle 01 / captube 0.9 mm
HX: plate HX , 12 plates
condenser: 3.0 Kw, alu-cu, cooled by 300mm/230V fan
refrigerants : R507/R1150
oilseparator : Shine Year automatic
safety : JOHNSON CONTROLS cut-off, 1.8 litre TORRECILLA expansion tank
case : baseplate 46 x 46 cm, zincked steel + wheels
others: 4*REFCO gauges, Anaconda shocks absorber on 1st stage's suction line,DIXELL XR20CX controller (turn on 2nd stage automatically when 1st stage is enought cold) .

Finally, I've put wooden plate under steel plate to make it more stiff - those 1HP rotaries aren't light ;-) .

Temperatures during filling,no loaded, with almost no insulation :) (except that which You can see so on suction line and on HX) .

I've already almost made complete insulation, in next few days I'll made electrics and final tests on new 260W dummyload which is already waiting for frost :D .

In pic #11, it looks like you've polished the evap base to a distorted shape???

I've been worried about doing that, so I've not yet made one a mirror finish.

Looks a little distorted to me also. You can avoid that by sanding on glass as you all know. But instead of polishing with a wheel or by hand you can use what is called Finnese sanding paper. With soapy water you can SAND to a mirror finish.
Edit: Sorry, forgot to say that sand paper goes to 12,000 grit.

Mirror need to be quite thick to be honest. Machinisit Granite FTW on that one if someone is patient.

I think that it is just the way the picture is taken.

Did you make the base yourself?

Pretty sure that's not flat.

this is why i don't polish evaps ;) justd grind it with 1200-2000grint and you're fine I've done even more but it doesn't affect the performance.

Yes, maybe 2mm ring on the outer side of evap isn't flat, but rest is rather flat :) .

Ok, You're right in hand it's hard to polish and sand evap to make it absolutelly flat, so do You think I shouldn't polish evap in future anymore ? :rolleyes:

Well, to be quite honest, YES I think we all should not polish evap bases anymore (well, I'm already on that wagon, it's too much work :rolleyes: ). A polished base seems more about bling to me than reality. Reality is you need a very FLAT surface first, provided the IHS is flat, and your evap doesn't flex when clamped to the cpu ( I think the flex is quite small compared to thin/wide waterblocks). If you can lap it to a better suface finish, that's great (it takes some good technique) but you shouldn't sacrifice flatness in the process. A very nice looking fun-house mirror evap base is not going to make good thermal contact. How about polish the rest of the evap for bling factor. (your evaps and piping are quite beautiful Piotres :clap: )

In regard to that. I wonder how can controlled convex lapping can be done... IHS unfortunately tend to be bowed in (concaved) now a day -_-; And you know how well thermal paste transfers heat at that temp... bleh...

Its hard to gauge how loud something is from a video without a reference. It would be better to get a db meter and give a spec. But I love youtube videos! :D

Hehe, please don't stop with polish'ing evaps. The evap on the cascade you made me was pretty flat imo.

I can make a video for you. I'm also a happy owner of a piotres rotary cascade.

"The sound" is not roommate friendly...To give you a little indication.

Please make that video Magoa ...and put it on Youtube with "piotres" in title please so search engine can find it :) .

You can find already on Youtube one of mine cascades (ultramarine one) :D -just put piotres in search window :) .

Today I check contact with dummyload - pretty good I can say, paste was thin after unmount. I'll upload pics of that too . :)

About the polished evaps - the one you made for me is also flat in the middle and looks on the outside like the one for this cascade.
You can see this only on the thermal paste when the evap was mounted on a dummyload. A normal S.775 CPU is a bit smaller, so the outside of the evap is not really important...

Insulation and electric done, so now only final tests left :) .
