Urgent GT Owners and NOW GTS512mb..You really need to read this.................

Well , I just picked up a GTS512mb which i cant open till Christmas > I hope the memory is better than GT or i will be taking it back for a SSC640mb until Febuary....This is getting sad on the whole New Card memory thing...also have seen people memory clock to 2200mhz and just fizzle out.....Whats worse is the memory unclocked, Has been failing right out of the box..


ADDED Monday December 17th ........I just found this .....EVGA Forums and GTS512mb same symtoms as GT!!!!!!,,slowly gets worse ...This is BullSh8t ...I am now affraid to open my New Chrismas Present in fear of a RMA!

Even though this guy lowered His system Clocks .....This is still not good News for a new line of cards only 1week Old!I dont care how fast the card is..this is begining to be 1too many RMA's


NOTE: If your card acts up right out of the box Pixels// Screwed up Graphics on Screen ? It can not be fixed!!!! I would Return it or RMA it ASAP!!!!...The problem will get worse the longer the card is used..

Im not saying all cards have this problem , but there are enuff out there to be a little concerned...I had to return my AlfaDog GT512 with Rev2Fan...It was a christmas gift for my brother...i reseached for two weeks before getting one because of the know GT problems popping up..It proudly say it lasted almost two days...We have decided to buy another GTS512mb and hope that it works normal...I will let you guys Know after Christmas. I really have never been worked up over a simple VideoCard untill now.

hmmm bad translator....but yes i have seen this occurring for some people, others it seems to not affect. a lot of GT SC editions are having this problem, 2000+ mhz on the memory causes artifacts. Its wierd though i would have thought manufacturers would internally test the cards clocked to what they are selling the cards at. I wonder if it is a problem with the memory controller itself or the quimonda memory IC's? The G80 cards also use these IC's, but have no issues.

knowing nvidia's history with mem controllers, I would say that it is the weak link in this case aswell

Why do you always have to use such blatant text, and big bold italiac fonts?? Jesus christ. Every post you make. Well, not every post, but I remember a thread you made about gettinga avideo card, and EVERY post you made in there had huge bold fonts in italiac and crazy colors, and it was kind of annoying.

:shakes: Yeah ... I mean my 320 did 2300mhz with out an issue 24/7...It had SAMSUNG... So this has me curious... I will know real soon what a Evga GTS512mb has under the hood......I cant open till Christmas though:D I kinda regret canceling my 640SSC...:ROTF:

It Probaly does use the Qimonda too ...
From what ive read the the G92/G96 were to use same memory manufacture @DDR3 speed...maybe thats why the price is under $400.00 for a GTX kinda like card that dosnt oc on the memory well .think about it ...use cheaper memory and it cuts at least $50bucks off the price:shrug: Im being sacastic..

This new Gt/GTS card is suppose to be replacing a 320/640 line which in fact was 100% stable even oveclocked @2200mhz memory...
The new GT/GTS should have been able to do this with no problems. Ive only seen one post with 2200mhz memory on a GTS512mb and only a 24/7 best of 2100mhz stable on the GT. Thats is if they were lucky to overclock the memory that good..
How many have been sold and how many GT's have new revision heatsinks and how many are still failing...we dont know...I can add one more to the fail list though.I would rather of paid $50 more bucks for them to get it right the first time...
Seems like a lot of people have been trying to hide failures or deny them...online vendors had been erasing legit bad reviews from customers with failed cards...Forums have been banning people over this...Those of you that search numerouse threads im shure have read about the Bans...Its major crap when people get fud for telling the truth on a product everyone is praising..

For the most part i dont care about some failures...but this is more than just some...People spend money for working items that should not have be RMA'd ...
I just returned a revision2 AlfaDog the one with New Bigger Cooler thats suppose to be 100% problem free..After waiting three weeks for it to come in ,it failed in two days...This quit nicely happened while i was telling my brother how good the card is over his old 6800....He did like the XFX logo and stuff and the fact that people are getting great 3Dmark scores with GT's..I felt stupid right on the spot when crysis loading caused the screen to start breaking up...So i rebooted and it was in the boot up screen and windows...typical failed memory or shader ....Imagine a tech telling a customer to use a product with high praise and to have it fail right before thier eyes..NoSale.

The new GTS512 sitting under my XmasTree...should be free of defect...It should be...So far one out of the two cards ,was a waste of time .We will not buy another untill i open the GTS512 on Christmas Day..

If any one has to lower the cards clocks because of pixeling or corrupted screen its an issue. Just dont mess with it , RMA' or return for another. This will hopefully allow the manufacture to fix the situation that people say dosnt exist when it does!.
Just like the 7900's that were failing way back when . They had Bad Capacitors/failing fans ,i wont forget that one ..Took three different cards before i said screw it and picked up a 7950KO..that at least didnt have the issue..
Ive owned several good cards ....All Nvidia...I feel they may have rushed this series..I am still buying and expect to see some failed cards....i am somwhat amazed how people deny there is no problem at all!

Sounds like the 7900GT dealio. I almost bought a new GTS today too :( All the more reason to hold out til the new cards come out in a few months /crosses fingers

My New Alfa died yesterday! It was picked up on Saturday! Crap happens..it was the 640mhz with rev2 Fan on it...i was shocked, trust me..Me and my brothe spent $745.00 for 1 AlfaDog and one GTS512mb EVGA...the Alfa dog failed. i reserched the GT's for two weeks straight before purchasing that fn thing!.

I like Nvidia , but there is something not right with some of these cards...Oh as you can see the cooler dosnt fit on all the memory either, the New Cooler fits the same way, ...

Ok below is a MaximumPc Link, yes there a very reputble site and they review product very well..The people who go into thier forum also posted Gt failures too. Users just want to know exactly what is going on including me..another forum has taken steps to ban two people for commenting on the problem,which it is real...If i rember correct it pertains to the revision 1 cards which ,led to the revision 2 fans, every one keept saying there wasnt a problem and some places just wanted to qiete the comsumer who spends money for a working part.! This is kinda long thread ..page 4/5 gets interesting..well the whole thing is....Although this donst turn me away from nvidia .It just has me asking why are they trying to hide deny the failures..As long as the company fixes the issues, i will keep buying. this thread is barely 1 1/2 months old... Its funny how people say there wernt problems and there still are problems..I know i returned one yesterday!

Note: I wish people would look too , I know im not the only one reseaching this...I never saw stuff like this with the First gen 8800's.. Drivers wernt the best / we had complaints of Bsod's. But not this crap. The 8600's didnt even get this bad. There based on the same stuff correct?

One thing that I'm certain about is that high frequency causes memory degration (or degration of the MC) on these cards. Another thing that I'm certain about is that current draw in an integrated cicuit like the memory or the MC (part of he GPU IC) increases +- linearly with frequency. I'm certain that an over current is damaging either the MC or memory ICs on these cards.

It's unlikely that the MC get's damaged in this situation as the temperature of the GPU has a great impact on current draw of this part and this temperature is very variable. Nvidia would have come across this issue and they would probably have fixed it before the release of these cards.

Seeing that it's most likely the RAM ICs failing on these cards we can conclude that the higher current going trough these devices is causing the issue. There are two other important factors that determine current draw in an IC: temperature and voltage. Voltage stays the same in this situation so temperature is the only other factor that's of importance here.

From what I've heard just a small increase in memory frequency can cause damage on these cards (DDR1800->DDR2000 is only +-11%). With sufficient cooling this will up the current draw by only +-11% as, pointed out earlier, cucrent going trough the device increases linearly with frequency. I don't believe an increase of just 11% can cause damage in a short periode of time. My conclusion is that the cooling device (thermal pads with a 'heatsink made of air' in the fan area :ROTF:) isn't sufficient at a higher frequency resultion in a more than linearly increase of working current in the device. I think that with PROPER cooling the ICs are unlikely to suffer permanent damage at any realistic frequency.

my Alpha Dog is only a week old, but no problems running 755/1810/2000 for 24/7 so far. Its watercooled though...

Thats good to hear...It was luck of the draw for me ....I am highly thinking of WB for the GTS512 ..im gonna test on Air first...I like these cards...The GT too , We just need more people testing them...There fast and they bench incredably nice...I can live with out High memory.....Stability is a another thing all together.

If these cards could manage to get 90+ band width .It would make my day:yepp: they memory and 256bit controler are holding it back...I did 94.5B/W with my 320 24/7..Makes all the differance with good memory....The GTS512 should of had 512bit bus---1gig should = 100+ B/W this would definatly run over a GTX at same band width...They needed to used 1gig to begin with @1800mhz..

Then i wouldnt have even looked into the stupid memory issue crap:yepp: ...I want to see aGT512 vs GT1gig...I know it makes a differance..In everything not just High Res..High Bandwidth helps the overall speed in Gaming !.

Just did a little test (Crysis benchmark) on my EVGA 8800GT SC.
Up to 1000Mhz mem, everything is fine, no artifacts whatsoever.
Once above 1000Mhz (1003Mhz more precisely), I get instant artifacts and my system freezes.

I'm gonna let the mem run at it specs (950Mhz) and only push core and shaders.
Card is watercooled with EK block.

With good cooling, 1000+ on the memory isn't hard.

Did the EK waterblock make a difference for the card's overclock?

I have a 8800GTS 512mb and have ordered this block.

My GTS does 1065 on the mem w/o artifacts.

thats pretty much what i figured... There will be defective cards in ANY lineup. One person gets a bad one or even a bad few and everyone freaks out.
