Be great in about 2-3 years when they reach levels of reliability equivalent to a hdd.
I wasn't aware that their reliability was suspect. Their price, sure. But their reliability? We've all got a hard drive that's gone 100 years without a failure. But we've also probably got a hard drive that died in less than a month. If nothing else, these SSD's will probably be a lot more consistent.
It's not the reads, but the writes that have a maximum limit before the chips are worn beyond use. It's supposed to be enough that you would never wear it out before you replaced it with something newer...all anyone has are estimates.
very nice very very very nice
now they have to reduce to $50 :D
I think i'm going to hold out for one of these puppies:

*drooooooooool* :D
....and *only* about 8 years until it degrades (and im not talking about the chick holding it.. well, ok.. maybe that too) :D
Is it time to wave bye bye to tiresome SATA bottlenecks and say hello Direct PCI-E drives? I hope so...
They should start shipping soon.......
So..... anyone care to lend me $20000 for the 640GB model? ;)
interesting snippet here:

wow now THAT is more exciting to me than any other component :D
What I found interesting more than the drives was the limitations on the Intel chipsets and that it wasnt on the Nvidia or AMD ones lol.
I don't think I will be able to afford one of these puppies anytime soon lol
what area of reliability are they down on?

as soon some manufacturer brings this down in price, they will sell like crazy.
Two in raid as soon i get my hands on two.
silent and fast, its perfect as systemdisks.
Q: I hear people in forums cry about the number of read/write cycles. How long will a modern SSD last?
A: Current-generation SSDs, such as those by MTRON have no read cycle limits, and a write life cycle of 140 YEARS. (You read that correctly). 140 years @5GB per day. With technologies such as wear leveling, and the newest NANDs, that has increased to 1,000,000 to 5,000,000 write cycles. Manufacturer suggest a 10 year life expectancy. 3.5" hard drives come with a 3 to 5 year warranty. SSDs are so reliable that they have been sent to Mars on Mars Rovers. You can't do that with something that won't last. We have been selling PQI SSDs since the middle of 2006 with no returns for any reason. On the other hand we have purchased numerous 2.5" laptop mechanical hard disks that failed within 2 to 3 weeks! This WON'T happen with solid state disks! SSDs should outlast the useful life of your system.

...."“If you were crazy enough, you could use this in a high end game machine.”....
lol
sounds a bit xtreme to me ;)
$30 per GB though... so that'll be $2400 rrp for the 80 GB model *gulp*
I need a raise *calls boss* ;)
They last forever so what $20,000 to drop :D
finally ram-like storage!
1000 hdds? :ROTF:
even 4x iodrive = less than 50 times
i'm a member there but cannot find any reference
missing threads :S really?
