8800GT + VF1000 - Results

Hey all,

Picked up a VF1000 and extra memory cooler kit (you'll need that) for my 8800GT pictures and results as follows:

Notes: Idle temp is 30min in Windows Desktop | Load is 30min playing Crysis

eVGA Superclocked - 650mhz Core | 1900mhz Mem

Config for system above (used for oc'ing, but not the first set of temps): Thermaltake Aguila | Corsair 520W | Core 2 Quad Q6600 | Tuniq Tower 120 | Asus P5K-E | eVGA 8800GT 512MB Superclocked | OCZ PC2-6400 2GB Platinum Rev 2 | 150GB Rap | LiteOn SATA DVD-RW
- All Antec 120mm TriCool fans at medium or low.

that's a good result for silent setup

i never saw my cards in SLI hit 60C with stock coolers but they did run at 100% fans

good to know. I plan on using my Zalman VF900 on my 8800GT.

dudue dont use VF900 .. it blows

i have HR 03 on my 1st card (yes the one sandwitched between CPU and 2nd card)
heres how it performs: (Crysis for like 15min, actually temp went down in some area) 47C MAX

when i play crysis it never exceeds 49C ... it got to 49C when my room is like 25C .... so at night/morning its usually 47C max
and on COD 4 it only got to 46C MAX ....

and VF900 on 2nd ....

and my 2nd card is like 6C sometimes even 10C higher in SLI apps ...

so either get the HR 03 regular, or wait for the HR 03 GT, or get that VF1000... that sounds pretty good

I'm considering the VF1000 for my 8800GT, but I'm wondering if heatsinks on the VRMs etc are actually needed... What say you?

NO need to buy a new cooling solution in case that the old one will work fine and will give him more than 20C drop in load

Silent PC Review - VF900 vs VF1000

For all the people that think the VF900 will be enough should really read this. For the price difference I would highly recommend getting the VF1000 for the extra $.

OC coming today when I get time - Which seems to be the best OC program as of late ? ATITool still good ?

these are only the stock clocks of the EVGA SSC. there must be a little more headroom...

I'm pretty sure the x1950xtx runs hotter than the 8800gt.

Also, I'm surprised that the neo he 430 was able to run the x1950xtx. SPCR pulled ~24A in their test of the supply.

I was under the impression that the VF900 CU wouldnt fit the 8800 card? It doesnt mention the 8800 on its compatibility list. Im getting the VF1000 and it's counterpart RAM and voltage regulator cooler the ZM-RHS-88. Im expecting it to run quite cool too.

I used the VF900 CU on my 7950GT, and was very impressed with it.

As for the HR-03 GT, it's better performing than the VF1000, but then, you don't get the seperate cooler for the RAM and all that.

VF1000 FTW for me im afraid.

I want to know if it has helped OCing/benching? any before and afters, this is an expensive upgrade to any 8800gt, if it reflects in performance then it may be worth it.

I would think if it helps lower temps, then yes. It may not help you bench at higher frequencies, but it will help you maintain them for longer, by keeping the card at lower temps. We all know that heat can damage your kit, so anything that helps it stay cool is a bonus.

Added benefit, it will be a hell of a lot quieter too! And it looks good (the HR-03 GT especially!!)

is it possible to use these for my 8800GT SLI and still use the middle PCIe slot ?

or do they take up too much space once installed ?

Yup I'll fit, but its going to be close. If its a full size card then it might cut the airflow, if you're just look to use a small sound card or network card, should be fine.
