Cooling the mosfets can lead to more stable voltage/current being supplied to the CPU == more stable overclock.
Heat causes the mosfets to "range" more widely in their supplied voltage to the CPU.

Basically what sjohnson said because when you raise voltages MOSFETs do get really hot. Have you seen the 8rda+ thermal pics?

if i stuck a fan blowing right on them would that be enough?
Fan works good because the PCB around MOSFETs usually gets hot as well and you can put hetasinks on the PCB obviously, Could use small sinks on the fets but that allow air to reach the PCB.

If the mosfets get very hot then your Vcore can suffer, but you dont need to keep them at ambient.
I find that heatsinks are unnecicary, a fan is all thats needed.
Curious, my NF7's vcore isn't the most stable and the mosfets don't get very hot at all. Any ideas besides it being the PSU?

I used an old pentium heatsink, hacked it up and used 1 long piece for the row of mosfets and 3 smaller pieces for the ones inbetween the caps. Attached them with AS3 epoxy, then used a 60mm fan mounted with a slot cover right above them to cool them further. The pics are of poor quality, but you get the idea..

dang i need to get a dremel so i can maching my own heatsinks, i have a crapload lying around but they arent in the right shape :p:
On my NF-7S I didnt think I needed mosfet sinks. That was on air at 1.8V vcore. Then I installed the prommy and cranked up to 2.06V. Now I cant touch them for more than 1/2 second w/out burning my finger. Suddenly I'm a believer in mosfet sinks.

It comes w/ a nice copper NB hsf, plus sinks for the mosfets and 2 PLL sinks. As an aside, anybody know which chips are PLL's on nforce boards? The only other decent-sized chip I can find that gets warm is the HIP3601 voltage regulator, but the kit comes w/ 2 so there must be another good place to put one.

I now have a temperature sensor on backside of the mobo, where the mosfet are. Max temp I got is 52-53 C under heavy load, with 1.82 vcore. Idle is about 45 C. Just imagine what temps would be on air.

logic cooling sells mosfet blocks if I remember right.

Also, do they do one for the 8RDA because different boards have MOSFETs arranged differently so they cant exactly make a "universal" block so to speak.

UBER DUPER Werk ...Sure there is probably some store out there that sells all kinds of blocks..but their is nothing more satisfying as when you take a piece of metal and create something from it..
AND it works!!! I never knew the Mosfets played such a big part in my O/C'ing Failures....Im water cooled so ill be looking into some raw stock..and hook up some more tubes Good job with all those Brain using heat dispersers you guys came up with...

I made a long HS for mine myself. One thing that was suggested to me after I did mine is that you might want to do individual HSs for each mosfet to insure optimal contact. It looks like from your picture they are all making good contact in your case except for perhaps the second one from the left. That one looks to be making contact, but not quite as good as the others. On the other hand, with a WB, I don't think you could really do it any other way. Just mentioning this for those thinking of making regular HSs for their mosfets.
Brainstorm that would be hard to do one block for each, those thing are small and that will cut dramatically the flow
