Marginal differences between them, however MX2 has no "cure" time so it will yield its best temps almost instantly. Where as AS5 takes 200hrs of burn in to achieve maximum thermal conductivity.
If you really want a difference, CoolLaboratory Liquid Metal Pro is going to be your best bet.
IF you have both, then use MX-2, if you just have AS5, just use that till its finished.
I bought mx-2 cuz I couldn't wait for it to be finished :p
and yeah it's better by a couple of degrees! (worth it IMO)
MX-2 FTW. I use it for all my stuff now. Cheap, comes with a decent amount, easy to spread/apply, no set time, it just rocks.
How easy is MX-2 to apply compared to ceramique? I got the monster tube from Petra's of the stuff because I was tired of running out all the time but it is such a pain to apply since it is so thick.
10x easier Sparky. I have the huge tube of Ceramique as well. You practically have to break your hand to get the stuff to come out when the tube is new. MX2 is just awesome in comparison.
Plus it is truly electrically non conductive. I dripped a blob all over my mobo and im pretty sure I didn't clean it all out. No problems whatsoever. In fact, I'm pretty sure some got on the board when I applied them to the PWM's on the board. Good stuff.

What I found reading about Coollaboratory Liquid PRO thermal compound:

What's required to remove the MX-2? If it's reasonable, I'll grab some with my next order from the Egg. Will the ArctiClear and ArctiClean clean it?

it seems like mx2 is the way to go now i guess is it still the same price as the as5 or cheaper? or a little pricier? i might have a go at it cause as5 isn't cooling my opterons at all temps are at 72 cpu 1 and 59 cpu 2. i have 2 DP so i just want to know pricing and how well its keeping its cool
mx2 is cheap, bought it from www.scan.co.uk for £2.99 (pictures and description were of MX-1 but i got mx-2 in the end)
It spreads easy but just first few squirts do them onto paper since some weird juice comes out first time, after that its just normal. A straight line on my a64 is giving me nice temps.
Also it wipes off fine, i was using akasa tim cleaner (citrus based one)
Guys, don't assume that you're getting a full tube of the stuff. I bought a tube from Petra's recently to try it out, and I took the label off the tube because I wanted to keep tabs on how much I use. I was very disappointed to see that they fill the tube up to around the top of the little AC logo on the tube label. Check your tubes out, you'll see what I mean.
MX2 definitely performs. It is much thinner than AS5 and I think this helps it get to a very thin layer much easier than AS5. Of course, that depends on the pressure you can put on AS5.
I also wonder tho if MX2 isn't just some thinned out Shin Etsu stuff. It is made by them. It's cheap for some reason.
What about Shin-Etsu X23?
