ASUS Blitz Extreme Mods ready to bench...

Well, here we go......:)

First of all, we unsolder the VCore chokes(coils) to make more space around the CPU's socket...:)

Then we resolder them back in the back side of the mobo....:D

Then we add/solder some caps if we wish....In the front and in the back of the mobo.....

Then we place a heatsink (the blue one) on the PLL chip so to "stabilize" it in high fsb conditions..... ;)

Then we do the VCore and the Vdroop Mods - no other mods needed accualy - ....

.....and then we start to insulate it and place some heatsinks onto VCore Power Mos-Fets....

....and after that, we are ready to bench......BEWARE and use plastic spray on the mobo where needed..... ;)

OMFG!

Additional condensers are necessary for reduction of heating of native condensers? I, on Asus Commando, had such problem, they overheat even at cooling by liquid nitrogen

And than you stirred throttles? At me NEVER was problems with a condensate on Commando. And it more than 200 hours has lead under a dry ice and more than 50 hours under liquid nitrogen

They are also tantalum capacitors....
Tantalum capacitors have the advantage beyond "classical" electrolytic caps to "handle" more current.......
For example: A 100uf tantalum cap EQUALS with a 1000uf "classical" one and with ~470uf of the new "solid" caps.....
So this circuit has by default 180uf tantalum witch equals with 1800uf "classical" or ~840uf solid......
So I add another 47uf thus 180+47=227uf (each) that equals with 2270uf "classical" and ~1067uf solid......;)
A nowadays VCore "standard", is 820uf solid.....;)

That's call I EXTREME :D

No, I was so anxius to put it on and bench with it that I forgot to capture the back side of it.....I'll do it when I'll move to to play SLI with the Striker...... ;)

but i think what he's saying is that it's somehow better than stock :D

hipro i assume you've actually had multiple benching sessions at stock and will now compare the modded board for actual difference yeah? ;)

A goog thing is that the ASUS default tantalum caps don't have cold bug (mine surely don't coz I have chose them for this).....So I can have it at -155*C all the time and it's OK.....Thank God I must say, or else I had to uninsulate it, remove them, solder some others, plastic sraying it and insulate itagain.....:)

Dinos, the very basic way to explain it would be that added capacitance (extra caps) gives smoother current.

Capacitors act kinda like a reservoir for electricity. They will store charge and release it as required to smooth out the current flow.

Compare it to your water cooling, a pump without a reservoir upstream will only recieve the flow that the source provides, whereas with a reservoir you are supplying a constant exact flow. When there's more water than the pump needs, it will fill the resrvoir, when there's not enough water for the pump the reservoir will make up the required water.

Hmmm, does that make sense?

@ Johnny Bravo: Look......In ALL "component world" there is a RULE....There are components which are "lebeled" somehow for best to worst - the SAME component after test - So we have "Class A" , "Class B", "Class C", etc......."Class A" goes to millitary and HIGH classed manufacturers like medical industry, HP (mesuring instraments), Hirschmann (a VERY HIGH class Germany manufacturer), etc.....
Now "Class B" goes to some other high builder companies.....
IF WE find "Class C" in the retail market, we will be more than happy.....;)
Unfortunatelly in the retail market the best someone could find, is from "Class K" and down...... :(

THE BEST is to have connections with the Hirschmann for example OR with the guy that buys VERY CHEEP the components that fails Hirschmann's tests......Yes you read well.......Hirschmann buys "Class A" componnents and they re-test them and IF they are not as they should be, they sell it by thousands to a person VERY CHEEP (just for not through them away).......Well we buy them from them......And guess what!.....They work perfect for us (but not for Hirschmann)

Example: I buy a Mos-Fet 300Watts (BLF278) from Phillips to build a 300Watts F.M. Linear Amplifier.....It has a letter "N" on it's case.....OK....I construct it and it really does ~340Watts maximum......When I unplug the Antenna from it's output, it can handle ~40Watts SWR before it burns down......
Now I get one THE SAME but with a letter "A" printed on it's case from a man from Germany who has the "stock failure" parts from Hirschmann and I put it on....It does 430Watts output and when I unplug the Antenna, it burns down at ~280Watts......;)

So in retail market, we buy bull......OR do you think that the motherboard, VGA, etc., manufacturers are buying "Class A"?.... :rofl: :(

Actually I was referring to the additional caps that you will have added; I think we're both know that if money can be saved on a motherboard it will be ;) Also the solid structure of tantalum caps is an advantage at low low temps compared to "solid" can capacitors that can by badly affected by their contents freezing.

Stunning work as always! Extremely clean solder joints and improvements exactly where they are needed. Thumbs up. I'd really like to see a oscope screen comparison "before --> after" for VCore. :)
Too bad that oscopes are too expensive to just buy one for using it once in a month or even less. Otherwise I would already have at least one. But it's just not worth it for me right now.

Very impressive Hipro. I've seen your previous boards where you did the same mods and I've decided that the next board I buy will receive similar mods. Clean socket for cascade benching :D
