Any Good c2d mATX: see for yourself

It used to be that every week or two you would see a thread like this in the Intel forum. With the new boards there are some mATX mb's that will clock. I have the Asus P5K-VM and it is a very good mATX board. I don't think the small boards will ever be as good as a full size mb only because makers don't sell enough to put a lot of effort in a board that will overclock. However, they are gaining ground now. Here is my best so far and I think that there is a little more to be had.

Shame about the lack of matx cases that can take a tall sink.....don't see much point in a clocking matx board if one still needs an atx case to house it with a decent cooler attached.

Is this with on-board graphics used/enabled ?

625MHz on 2.1v works too.:eek: :D

It's been a few years since I've validated cpu-z. I can't seem to save the file. When I hit save file, it doesn't save it.:(

No way,LOL. I've done 510 FSB on this mb and about 300 +- is the limit with on-board enabled.

I am sure it will fit into my microfly case with a small adjustment.

How about a Quad on that board? CPU-Z My box, here and here I don't claim stability at 3.8. The volts req. are too high for my comfort to play with prime. I can run 3.2 at stock volts, #.4 is stable with a little juice, 3.6 and 3.8 I did for s**ts and giggles. I like this board.

I like the smaller boards and this one really impressed me, I tried my E6600 and got to 3.4 with a little dance where my best matx with the conroe barely made 3.2. My quad @ 3.4 load temps are 43-44c w/o lapping. I used D-Tek blocks on the quad and my 7950 and plan on lapping the ihs and block the next teardown. I need to do some searching as I've heard about a kit for the fuzion to bow and possibly jet the flow.
Plumbing is a good word for it, Dual pump, dual rads are tight in a normal case but I like a challenge. The elbows I would have prefered not to use at all but was unavoidable in a small box. They're from "PEX" tubing normaly used to plumb your home, The ID 3/8" is the same as standard "high flow" barbs and I used 3/8" ID tubing so there is minimal restriction.

In 20 minutes me and my Dremel figured out what had to be done to fit a TR 120 Ultra in a Microfly case. Was going to do it sometime but your comment gave me a reason to do it now, thanks.:D Here's a few pictures.

Still have to do some wire management and a few little things. Just want to show how easy it is to put the best air cooler in a micro case. I can put my TT BT in it too but need to get some different screws. It is also easier to work with the TR120.

I closed the case up and put the Vcore at the highest it will go on the mb, 1.6 bios. I did the pencil vdroop mod and it works great. Took a ss at idle, loop 19 and finished of spi32m. Note the temps and the vcore in cpu-z. The picture of the case is during the run with the top temp on the thermometer the room temp (other is my bedroom):D and the probe temp on the case in wedged in the nb.

Who says you can't use a SFF case with a good oc? ;)

can you explain how you did the vdroop mod on this mb?

You already know.:D I am amazed how it does not droop at all. It actually goes up a little bit under load. If someone could get a Vdimm mod it would be perfect.

A year ago what would we have given to have had a 4+GB dc cpu on air in a SFF case that has pretty good temps?

I'm real impressed with this board, a little more control in the bios would be nice but with these clocks who am I to complain?:clap:

it's a bit longer so it can accommodate a full size PSU

They both can fit a full sized PSU, but the MicroFly can fit some of the oversized ones. It's 1.5" longer. Other than that, the different faceplates and near worthless 80mm front fan on the MicroFly, they are identical.

You can even squeeze watercooling in them. I'm doing about the same with a Q6600.

I gave my son my p5k-vm and some crucial 1066 tracer mem and other goodies and I was amazed at the clocks he's getting. 500 fsb with a e6420 @ 3.5 ghz. And, YES! it oc's the freakin memory bertter than my dluxe!!! he has it running @1200 with what it says is only 2.1v's! Quite a nice board:up: :bounce: I'll get him to post.

I know it clocks better then the DFI 965 and the memory seem to clock better without many volts. I wish I knew where to check it to see just what it is putting out at 2.1.

Do you guys know if the G80's will fit in there?

That looks pretty sweet! I might do that, seeing as how I do LAN-Parties a lot...I didn't know the mATX boards clocked that good. :up:

I just measured and there is about 13 inches from back to front of clear real estate where the pcie card goes.

Yes, Id like to know whats going on too

Probably would be a great board for Folding/WCG machines. You might have to add a cheap video card, but that's not a big deal.

Yes indeed I like this board a lot. After a disappintment with the Asus P5LD2-VM this new G33 board looks like a winner--I have a case that fits 4 mATX for a Crunch-box and that with some PCI GFX would be perfect...

Well, I was going to get this board, but it doesn't support RAID. :down: :(

I might look into the Giga or Intel mATX boards, I know they have it. I hope they're good quad core clockers though...
