I need Input/feedback

The upcoming edition is going to 64bit and we would like your feedback and some discussion on our current list of applications(to include or keep out)

Support for .net and Java [but they will not be natively included]

Absolutely will include: boinc service install

Probably:
OpenOffice
7-Zip
Foxit Reader
Pidgin/Trillian (which ever people prefer)
Firefox
paint (or similar drawing program)
A Burning program (Free or open source [needs some suggestions])
Daemon Tools
Media player (which one(s) do you want included?)
Anti-virus software (looking for preferences/suggestions)
Firewall (preferences/suggestions)

Not sure if we are going to include but we need your view of it:
Cpu-Z, OCCT, prime, superpi ,clockgen , rivatuner, TightVNC, Orthos, SpeedFan, CoreTemp, 3DMark, FileZilla, VMware, Thunderbird

cpu-z and coretemp would be necessary.

3dMark. Maybe not so necessary. Tight VNC? Defo for remote access. Especially with a few crunches. Vmware, although a big fan of it, perhaps not necessary.

Might as well throw in(or at least support) putty, very useful in my opinion.

I wonder if CPU-Z makes sense, it gets updated fairly regularly so we'd end up having to redownload it every so often anyway.

AVG is good AV software. Has killed all the viruses I have come across so far (and being a computer tech working on PCs, this is a LOT of viruses, talking a couple thousand at this point).

ZoneAlarm is a good firewall but some may find it too much of a pain to set up. It is a little annoying at first to have to clear everything but it does its job well.

As long as nero will work I'm happy.

InfraRecorder is quite good, it's also a open source project.

I would say trillian because I already use it and have never used pidgin.
As for a burning program I am interested in that
InfraRecorder
I would say vlc for media.
Anti-virus software go with AVG
firewall is not needed here but I would say go with zone alarm or comodo!
coretemp is a need to have but on older systems like I have speedfan

As for all the stuff your not sure about I would say they can download themselfs because if you just start adding everything then it will be just like microsoft and have all kinds of junk that some people just will never use.

preference to MPC over VLC

OS is sounding great and really look foward to release

I like your initial reccomendations. I like trillian for chatting, and InfraRecorder looks pretty good as well. I don't see a need for coretemp and cpu-z since they're updated so often and they only need to be downloaded to run and not installed. If you can fit 3dmark in there, I'm sure that would save us a whole bunch of time downloading them seperately. Anyway, I can't wait.

Also, will the service installation of BOINC be the 64-bit one?

+1 for Avast. Definatly 64-bit compatible, and better than a purchased anti-virus used on my last 32-bit OS.

I'd prefer if you just include firefox, let users download whatever else they need/want.

I do like that Idea but I do feel that I should atleast include a decent firewall and I have found 2 compatible choices

The more I think about it, the more I believe we don't need to include anti-virus software, But keep the suggestions coming.

yes i think if this system will be directed to crunchers only then the less software the better

also to make it future proof, cause i don't want to install a new OS after 2 months form now and then i have to update the browser or the antivirus, i prefer clean install

Well, what's this build tailored for? If it's for a cruncher there shouldn't be much necessity, since chances are it's already behind a router/firewall. But I suppose it can't hurt if size isn't an issue or this is more for main rigs.

it is the "noob"/User friendly edition to help facilitate people's movement into helping out in WCG

Kaspersky has a free AV that is very good IMO. Might want to try that.

Comodo Firewall i say it's really good,
Ccleaner
Foxit is good
firefox and paint
open office too if you can

Can download all those so not too fussed but include Firefox and ill be happy

Best would be a properly configured (codecs etc) Mplayer but MPC, VLC could do the job as well.

Definately include:

Coretemp
Pidgin
CCleaner
Firefox and thunderbird.

I think antivirus and firefall should be covered by the user. Just about everyone has their own prefences.
