Does anyone have a pencil volt mod guide for the sapphire X1950GT?
I've searched all over the net without success. :(
The card has a revised PCB also found on the newer Sapphire X1950Pro cards, software/bios voltage adjustments doesn't appear possible with this newer PCB.

I've got the pencil mod working, currently at 1.42v GPU, currently 17 mins into artifact tester (ATITool) at 675MHz on the GPU with stock cooler, temps around 80C load lol think I need to install an arctic X2 on this thing soon.Quote:

Well im getting odd readings from that componenet i should pencilmod, that russian in guide says 5990 is the normal resistance but i get reading in ohms 6400, am i doing something wrong or is my meter end of life?

Sapphire X1950GT 256MB stock @500/600, flashed with modded Sapphire X1950Pro 256MB bios @621/715 (same GT PCB rev. bios).
GPU @1.45v, Memory stock @1.8v with modified Arctic Accelero X2 fitted with 80mm 45CFM YS-Tech fan:

Not bad for a £70 card incl. delivery.
Only the lack of a better cooling solution and quadcore is preventing me from breaking the 3DMark06 WR.
I reckon the core could maybe reach 750MHz+ with higher volts (1.55v~) and better cooling fitted :D

Yep that's the card, 1950 GT > 7900GS
X1950 Pro about on par with the 7900GT
7900GTX > 1950Pro
I didn't bother saving the 3DMark06 score (ain't registered on the site), the CPU score makes up a large percentage of the score, my E4300 at only a measly 3GHz sucks, I think I only got 5.7k lol
I think 1 or 2 of the 8 Samsung memory chips on my card is a dud, no matter what voltage I run it at there is zero gain in memory clocks over the default 1.8v, although the X1950 Pro isn't memory bandwidth limited.
My latest attempt with GPU @1.51v (measured under load), not verified 100% stable yet:

I think it's close to the limit with the aircooling setup, hitting close or breaking 750MHz on the GPU would require either water/phase change, or extremely low ambient temps!
Edit: bah damn thing blanked out after 35mins, tempted to resort to cap mods...
you're way past my old x1950pro o/c and you have a 1950gt....
well at least on the core. 641/810 was my max on the stock cooler. is there a similar mod for x1950 pro or is there no point? just get x1950gt and do the same? do you have a copy of the modded bios?

Depends on your X1950 Pro's PCB, some cards can alter GPU voltage via bios, others require a volt mod.
I doubt my bios will work on your card as it's based on the newer PCB revision that doesn't have all the digital VRM's, many of the newer X1950GT/Pro PCB's have analog power supplies, you can't alter voltage on the fly but the analog design does run cooler.

Yes just pencil in the resistors and measure resistance with DMM, you got the VMEM and the VGPU section the wrong way round on that image.
If I were you I'd try using ATI Tool to change the VGPU (if possible) on your current X1950Pro card and see how high the card can clock before deciding if it's worth getting a better cooler for your card.

can i measure from any of those points? there are 4 for vgpu and 2 for vmem from the pics
i just did this mod to my 1950 pro. same pcb as the GT... 1.53v core 1.8v mem. jsut like yours i cant gain anything with raising my mem volts.

I can get an open box x1950pro from newegg for the same price as a x1950gt. the mem on the pro will clock higher right or are they both 1.4ns samsung?

im using some of the goo that came from the stock heatsink to hold my sinks on. and it doesn't work very well. i have no sinks on the back. i have quite a few extras that i might epoxy on, and redo all the others. then i bet the memory will break the 860mhz wall im at.. even with 2.0v on the mem it wouldn't go past what i had with stock 1.8.
do you guys know if the 1950pros have a coldbug? i would only be going to -30c res temp.. chiller on the card and cheap water on the cpu.
have fun moddin it up.. what kind of cooling are you using trans?
I'm starting to suspect that maybe it's the caps on the card that is holding the clocks back.
I might try and solder 2x 16v 4700uf caps on the GPU rails to see if it improves the clocks, any tips appreciated guys ;)
Edit: backed VGPU down to 1.48v @715MHz stable for over 2 hours, memory maxed out @750MHz, looking more like a cap mod might just do the trick here.
