Flashing SPD >>> what do to when things fark up

hey guys

well yeap you guessed it

i kinda ****ed up a couple of my RAM modules while flashing with that SPDTool :heh:


i used a file for 512MB modules on my 256MB sticks and well windows wouldn't boot


so i'm pissed of hahahah

NOTHING :(

well the last resort was to boot with a good stick and IN WINDOWS STICK THE FAULTY MODULES AND REFLASH them

well it worked :lol: :dodgy: :lol: :D BUT DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!

will test on the weekend whether reflashed sticks will work with P5K

if they work i have to reflash my 512MB sticks and my 1GB sticks as well :sweatdrop

UPDATE!!!!

i think PC6400 on one of the sticks may come in handy as well in case it doesn't like PC5300 stuff

Dinos, all you have to do is put in a good stick in the 1st slot and the stick with the messed up SPD in another slot. The board will boot with the good sticks SPD ;)

Couldn't get this method to work when I tried it myself. I did have some success jamming the faulty stick in before windows loaded though :)

Possibly it works on some motherboards and not on others.

got a pair of dead xms2, which "mettod" is less dangerous, mask the 4 last pins or try the hot swap?

already did it here, and still no boot :( send it to a repair place that got a machine to reflash it, last chance :shrug:

There is also a method that works 100% if the stick isn't electrically borked, besides the SPD-ROM. It involves isolating nearly all the pins, except for those that are needed for flashing. I think we already had a howto on that, too. Did that a dozen times and it always worked when only the info in the SPD-ROM was damaged.

BTW, the method of booting with one good stick and the bad stick in another slot often DOES NOT work, as the board refuses to boot, regardless of what slot is used for the bad stick. Then it's either hotswappng time, or time for the method described above.

this is quite a resurrect :)
but while on the subject, did it a few times, best way is to have the badspd stick in, but not all the way, this way the ram gets voltage (so smaller chance of burning something), but the system cant read it so it can boot. then when in win plug it all the way in and hope win doesnt freeze, if it freezes, try again :)
of course risky stuff, but like previously said, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do :D
