E4300 Superchip!!!

Haha...didn't mean for the thread title to be so lame, but I'm overall in a pretty good mood with my progress so far with this CPU.

Long story short, I'm sitting with a 3.2GHz E4300 running at only 1.312v under load and still using the stock cooler to boot. :D

I still seem to have more room to stretch (even with the stock cooler) and I'm gonna go for 3.3GHz right away, but as soon as I get a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme I expect to see 3.6GHz fall quickly.

Not looking for any world records here, but even though I've seen other very nice E4300 overclocks, thought it might be worth "shouting" about anyways. :p:

I don't have much for benchmarks yet, as I haven't taken much time to benchmark this thing during the stresstesting...but I'm just shy of 100k in Aquamark3 with a single X850XT at stock clocks and my OCZ PC2-8500 @ 1,070MHz 5-5-5-15 2T. :cool:

More updates to come, not sure exactly when I'll be getting the Ultra-120 Extreme for the CPU and HR-05 on the NB...but I'll hopefully be able to pull off 3.3GHz with the stock cooler in the meantime.

She boots at 3.3GHz and runs Orthos for a few minutes before crapping out at 1.312v, just needed a bump in NB PLL voltage to get into windows, we'll see what it's gonna take for 3.3GHz to remain stable, but I'm only loading at 62C or so at the moment so I should be able to do it...then I MIGHT have to ditch the stock cooler. :ROTF:

godly chip u have. this thing beat up e6850 right away with so much less money u spent on. Wat i can say, its just great.

I'm quite pleased with it...but I'm completely devoted right now to topping this thing out on stock cooling, as it's all that much more impressive. Sure I could hit 3.6GHz and above (probably) with this CPU and an Ultra-120 Extreme...but everyone has those. Nobody OC's with the stock cooler though...and that makes it all that much more fun. :p:

I've been running my 6300 at 3.2Ghz with stock cooler since I bought it 1/2 year ago.
Temps were well over 60C at load but I fixed that by uninstalling any temp monitoring tool :D

A bit of an "interesting" turn of events...nothing I couldn't probably figure out, but I'm off to bed I'm off to bed and wanted to see what you guys thought.

I have the shutdown temp disabled in the BIOS but it can be set as low as 85C. I need 1.375v in BIOS to start Orthos @ 3.3GHz, but after a few minutes, the system shuts down without warning.

At first I thought that it was related to the shutdown temperature, but now that it's disabled and the shutdowns still occur I'm not so sure.

I have yet to figure out 100% if my CPU has a tJunction of 85 or 100 degrees, but even with TAT running I only get up to about 76C or so when the system shuts down...so even if the shutdown temp was still in effect the CPU isn't getting nearly that hot.

Just wondering if anyone has seen something similar with other C2D chips.

I realize I'm pushing the limits of the stock cooler, but it doesn't seem to be a huge temperature issue yet so I'm not stopping. I'll give it some more attention in the morning...hopefully I figure something out.

I know I know...didn't mean that NObody does it...just that it's not as extreme and I love pushing the envelope with sub-par cooling. :D

a little more vcore should do it, but keep an eye on the temps. Also, I have no experience with these particular CPUs but lately all CPUs from intel have cup shaped IHSs. So even if you put it under good air cooling you may still see high temps.

Nice Overclock there. I noticed you were buying an ICFX3200T2R/G around the same time as me. Mine's doing quite well at 3.0GHz, 1.275V 430FSB with an E6300, except some slight coldboot issues.

I'd be a bit weary of the temperatures that Core Temp 094 gives on the Core 2 Duo E4300. They're normally about 15*c out. Download Intel Thermal Analysis Tool and the Coretemp 095. You'll find the temperatures are infact substantially higher :(

I'm aware of the fact that Core Temp 0.94 reads 15C lower then TAT and Core Temp 0.95 and what is actually going on with the difference. Check out this thread though, more particularly the last page or two and you'll see that most all L2 revision E6300/6400 CPU's have a tJunction of 85C...and there are also some L2 revision E4300's that have a tJunction of 85C, and some that are 100C.

I'm working closely with a couple guys to do some testing and find out...but it's looking like my chip is an 85C variant, but not 100% sure yet.

I'm pretty sure that the IHS needs lapping, but I'm wary to try more vcore. Like I said above, I have yet to prove/learn whether or not my chip has a tJunction of 85C or 100C...but assuming that TAT and Core Temp 0.95 are correct I was hitting load temps in the upper 70's at 1.375V and 1.400v set in BIOS. I was worried at first and thought that I was hitting my shutdown temperature in the BIOS, but it is now disabled. Also, it shuts down sooner at 1.400v then it does at 1.375v...so I'm thinking that even though I'm not TOO hot, it could be too much heat at this frequency.
