I think I'll wait until DDR3 is more widely available, less expensive and has better specs. Plus I don't have a DDR3 mobo. :p:
Why would you want to spend just under £300 on 2 gigs of 1066 MHz Cas 7 stuff when you can get 2 sets of 2 x 1 GB (4 GB) of PC-2 9200 1150 MHz Cas 5 OCZ stuff for the same price?
Yeah, yeah I know it's DDR3 and it's new technology and all but come on...surely that doesn't warrant a 100% premium over existing technology. Although there aren't that many reviews of DDR3 out there, from what I've seen, right now it doesn't really have much to offer over DDR2. Reminds me of late 2004 with the P915 chipsets...DDR2 was new back then and cost more than DDR1 and it wasn't uncommon to see DDR being faster in some cases because of the high latencies (Cas 5 at 667 MHz anyone?) DDR2 used to have at the time.
Personally, I don't think DDR3 will kick off in a big way until mid 2008, and even then I feel there'll still be a market for DDR2. DDR2 isn't obsolete by any means imo...The new Bearlake P35 chipsets support both DDR2 and DDR3, however it will be interesting to see if Intel tries to phase out support for DDR2 when it releases the new X38 chipset later this year*
*I've lost touch with the latest PC tech hype as of late so don't flame me if it's been stated that X38 does indeed support DDR2. :)

Their is no way I will be buying DDR3 for at least a year it's totally new, the guinea pigs can do all the testing they want & I'll sit back & appreciate it besides that the best time to upgrade to DDR3 will be around April next year because prices drop usually.
United Kingdom pays alot more for hardware that people in the USA does without a doubt.
I could probally get a return flight to USA for around £100, buy 50 lots of DDR3, come back to UK & still make a ridiculous profit. lol

lol.... OCZ has 8500 2GB kit for $169.99 and 139.99 after MIR ... and CAS5 .. and i dont think CL7 DDR3 is faster than DDR2 CL5 ...Quote:

It's only Samsung original. Wait for when DRAM manufacturers start to send out individual ICs that are not on a PCB. When IC binning begins at high-end memory manufacturers the true power of DDR3 will become apparent ;)

i dont know why everyone is freaking out, it was the same deal with DDR2 when it came out, timings will drop with prices and speed will go up.
There is no pressure to move on to ddr3 yet. Still plenty of time to enjoy ddr2 while the prices on ddr3 becomes more reasonable.

Price is high but DDR3 potential is huge. Asus guys have already achieved DDR3-2000, crappy timings though but hey we are the ones that use extreme volts and you might see way better timings. 1400 6-6-6 is already possible with a slight voltage bump
