DFI INFINITY CFX3200-M2/G --- AN RD580X Nvidia Challenger ??

Well folks , I messed around with the MSI K9A Platinum for a little but its in RMA atm so I got myself a DFI to play with. :D

I've heard not so good things about that board, or really, the ATi chip itself not being up to par. Hope you can show this is a good board.

Nice bord, hope you get some good OC´ing out of it! I´m locking forward to your rersults! I was looking for that borad here in sweden but it´s not to be found any where...Got a Sapphire Pure cross fire insted.

my initial impression is that this is a very solid board. It took me maybe one minute to set it up right and get it working. Right now I am installing a buncha benchmark suites , so I can run some tests on these. Then its ocing time :) .

here is an update. The board seems to undervolt the vdimm and overvolt the processor.

no , i set the vcore at 1.55V just to take that off the list and be on the safe side. Im currently doing orthos at 2928 mhz , with a 9x multi. Lets see how high I can go tonite.

You do realize that the AMD 3200 is the ATi RD580 right? perhaps you are speaking of nvidia 590, 570, and 550 chips. in which case I would say in some regards it is much better but in some benchmarks it isn't as good

there is no amd 3200, only amd 580x which is the renamed ati CFX 3200/rd580 ;)

That's kinda why I didn't have high hopes for the board. The chipset wasn't that great with 939 and is reportedly even less inviting for AM2. Any comparison between an nForce chip and this board?

Yes I know nn_step that RD580X is an ATI/AMD chipset. What my title meant was that whether it is an Nvidia Challenger or not. That whether it is good enough to hang around with the chipset that has been around since the advent of AM2 or a half hearted attempt from ATI to get into the the performance motherboard market again. And frankly from what I have seen till now , this board is one of the easiest and stablest board that I have used to overclock. It goes great running dividers like 400/533/667or running the 800mhz standard memory divider and the bios tweaking power is enormous. I will post some bios screenshots tonite when I get home. I can safely say though that it has let me overclock my 3600+ higher than the MSI K9A has. The chipset runs cool , I have some benchies done already at 3 ghz , although its not my max yet.

@Quake6 and Lightman , I will be posting some screenies tonight when I get back from work. Was gonna do it earlier but XS was down in the morning. I have having some probs with Cat 7.4 though , so am gonna go back to 7.3 and get some 3d benchies and cinebench too. Also I will be trying to test how high will the board allow me to go on the memory at 2.4V ( I dont want to go higher ) with 4-3-3-12 / 4-4-4-12 / 4-5-4-12 / 5-5-5-12 timings. And if my memory can take it , then some 1T action as well. But I need time for these and of that I dont seem to have enough between work/wife/chores. :slap:

here is a little teaser with the benchmarks. Memory at 1020 mhz 4-4-4-12 2T. Processor at 9x340 = 3.06 ghz .

the chipset wasn't that great bc of the soubridge but it always had the highest max HTT (LP-ut cfx3200) and kept cool even when it's overclocked.

performance was on par and am2 really didn't change anything, you can still use the same chipsets so it's no disadvantage that the chip has been around since the 939 times

correct ! But the RD580X has the SB600 , which is ALOT better than the SB480 that the first CX3200 chipset came out with .

so you set 1.55v for 340x9 in bios and cpu-z reports it 1.3v?

actually no , I set 1.475V in bios , the board overvolts and puts it somewhere between 1.5 ~ 1.53 V . Cpu-z acts weird , sometimes it reports the vcore correctly , and sometimes it decides to stick to 1.3V .

what do you mean lapped brisbane? how did you do it and you gained anything?

i need better cooler, with stock i got it stable 310x9.5 at 1.35v is good i think :P it goes up to 60°c at S&M hehe.

Lapping means you sandpaper your CPU's IHS to make it flat and smooth, which helps in heat transfer as more surface area comes in contact. Just google " how to lap your cpu or A64 " and you will see. I am using a Thermaltake BT VX which is also lapped , albeit only to flatten it , but the rest is taken care of by the thermal paste. The priority is to get a flat base so that you have the maximum contact patch. You are doing good for sooo little voltage. Mine scales more linear and needs voltage early on ( doesnt clock well on stock volts ) but about 1.5 ~ 1.55 V is its sweet spot and it ocs great around there. But as always aftermarket cooling is required :) .

seems this AMD AM2 processors doesnt like 1T command rate at all...

No unfortunately I do not have any SATA drives atm. I will get getting some in the future , just havent gotten over my IDE yet :D . And neither do I have crossfire cards that I could test out crossfire with.

What board do you have ?? Something from ABIT ?? You should get a 3600+ too , they are dirt cheap atm ;) .
