Sweet autocascade

Hello

While ago Symon asked me about unit, to cool his quadcore with reasonable temperatures. I suggested an autocascade, tuned to hold quad load :-) And here it is !

Specification:


Compressor -> Sanyo 7000btu/h
Condenser -> 1,9kW
Evaporator -> made by Duniek, brazed by myself, grey sleeve, 75cm suction line, 19mm thick insulation.
Phase separator -> 35mm pipe with caps.
Expansion devices -> captubes on both stages.
Heat Exchangers -> Main HX + slhx before phase separator.
Gases -> R290/CO2 (maybe a bit of R1150).

I f*cked charge, so don`t look @ temperature. I had -87*C on evaporator (not at vacuum !). Must vacuum it once again and charge ;-)

Autocascade -- one compressor, two or more gases in one loop, phase separation.
Cascade -- two compressors, two gases, one each stage, stages connected by interstage HX.

with good charge and enough strong compressor with autocascade you can achieve similar results to cascade, with just one compressor.

Nice job luke! Do you use a high kW condenser to compensate for the high discharge pressures?

More because that`s the smallest I can get ;) But from what I see, it`s ideal for everything.

Hehe ;) . Big condensers won't do any harm anyway, they will just condense more gas in them which makes the unit more efficient :).

You are quite correct, how ever too big can become a problem with out proper control systems, such as a Pressure modulated fan speed control or a simple fan cycle control. A large condenser can do so good of a job you loose head pressure, the feed back systems can lock the head pressure to an ideal state 100psi.

In the field of roof top condenser systems our basic design uses a condenser over sized by about 30%, we then use a fan cycle controller for the basic unit and for a deluxe a Pressure modulated fan speed controller (Which obviously gives the best results) These same systems can be easily ported over to this sort of application thus driving up its power efficiency with minor impact on total system cost.

Ssilencer in fact could incorporate this function into his controller with only the addition of a pressure transducer. They can be had for cheap on ebay every now and then.

Hard to say, but for me that autocascade isn`t very loud, normal I would say.

chaos piping ? Where ? How you can tell me that if you can`t see all pipes ! Insulation is bad? F*uck, I know that everyone wants everything nice and sexy but when it become paranoia, something is bad then ! :slapass:

Boring colors...tomorrow I`ll order pink armaflex and blue UV copper pipes.
I will try to not forget about singing brazing rods while brazing + some nice pink extras for whole unit.

This isn't a drag show, they're machines, their job is to work, it is the cases job to look good, and it is optional!

Pink and UV-things are only for gays or girls thing :p:

Luke, can you upload us pictures from the unit without isolation?

It`s almost impossible, because I don`t have that photos ;( But I will make two that same auto-c in next few days, so I will take some photos.

Did some load testing.

-59C @ 165W

With R290/CO2. Don`t think so it`s bad result, only 6800btu compressor :) not 2HP monster :p For 24/7 use it`s ideal I think.

But I expected 3-4C lower temperature, but for that I need R23 which is expensive ;|
