Caution! UGLY G80 underwater install

A week ago I was chastized for not showing pics of the full card Innovatek in my system. I was flustered as I just put it in and iIthought primarily YOU ALL wanted thermal performance, but now, after hearing about CARD BENDING, I wanted to open the case up.

Now I will try to manage these photos for you. First the box in overview. I have fans too and note the swingout fan holder. Not utterly effective. They move some air.

OK--I do not know if text will follow the pics. I'll try it out. Pic #2This may seem redundant but it is a different angle. I see i am side by side on the commentary in the preview. Pic #3 The "under" pic features the Cool-Matic, sorry how the flash washes the shot. I did a mirror shot but the only mirror i had was bad. Pix #4 A shot of the possibly infamous inline dual heater core with 120v fans Pic #5. The entirety of the cooler and the PC sitting on the coffee table. All the tube garbage of the dual heater core is inobtrusive and the res and pump are in that coffee table.

Why do you change to smaller bore tubing after the heatercore?

I have seen some very nice external coolers before. If you take the time you can make something that you can be proud to have sit next to your computer and make it better performing at the same time. Now to mention you don't have to mod every case you get just to put your watercooling into it.

However for a Lan party rig I could not be bothered to carry yet another thing up and down stairs... which is what my WC'ing is going into.

But for a stationary computer I would be all for it as long as theres room.

my benching station aint pretty either, aint got no heater core i just use good old ice.

Welch Tom..............I have four Innovatek fittings. I ReducerBarb the 3/8" to the 1x8 metric OUTSIDE the case. You can trust Innovatek fittings. You will not cut you fingers on the screw up clamp excess either.

IOW---goes 3/8" to 10mm, as some might put it.

My system does not consider 'dwell time/heat transfer' ---it is a heatsink temp concept with a 2g. res....the water moves like hell, but it is merely circulating in a closed loop via an I/R pump that is basically what you could call an Iwaki rzl20 clone or equivalent.

I am not a big clocker-upper. Check my chipset and mobo.....not the best to OC. Not to mention the CPU never went over 10% when clock ed up and it made little difference anyway.

Dunno haven't used NVidia for awhile now had no lucj getting any type of performance i was pleased with when I have them hooked to my Sony 45inch screen ATi worked better for me and the image quality was noticeably better. Theres a few people I know over here on a local forum that have the 24in dells and swear by them, they cost $1099 over here in Western Australia, I have a 22inch Viewsonic i picked up new for $AU380 at christmas time on my desk that suits me fine, might pick up a second in a few months, i LOVE the 16:10 aspect and for the price IMO are excellent value.

Seems like NVidia is always a bit cheaper. I cannot imagine the thermal output on the upcoming ATI card. This 8800GTS was plenty hot for me so I watered it right away knowing summer might fry it. I wanted enough stuff to play UT3 with Vista DX10, uh, IF it shows up in fall. I figure they got so much dough coming in from Gears of War they really give a flying coitus about the cross platform thing.

I was amazed at how much better my ATI looks than my old nVidia, but that was an old card - but it seemed to just get the colours all wrong somehow. Think I'll wait for R600 before getting a new card now.

Do you run the case fans at all or are they just rusting in place? Seems like rather a lot of them just to cool your mobo chipset and mosfets?

That table the PC is sitting on. The one that looks like Yogi's toidy, you should cut holes in it and mount your rads in it. Then just plumb the PC into it. I bet it would be quiet too.

I got the pump, res, and two rads in the coffee table. That table is unassuming and not fittingly Yogi's toidy, but that is a cute observation on your part ...lol! The coffee table was sealed from top to bottom and stem to stern and i had to saw into it, and the rear has a door that you do not see. The rear door has two rads mounted to it and a table fan blowing on the rads.....that was poor, so since I have all the pump power I will ever need I merely inlined the dual heater core ugliness and hid it away in the rear as the 120v fans on the cores will remove your finger meat should you get dumb.

BTW....How much water is there in your Zalman? If your pump has any guts you could inline a gallon or two of more juice. Figure the heat equivalent of, say, a 1/2g water vs. 2g. The heat sink effect might be minimalized in 27/7 usage but for the average Joe who filps his rig on for a couple hours, well, there is no comparison. The 1/2g might get rather warm rather soon doing 400-700w of cooling compared to four times the liquid heatsink; this statement is made assuming either version is brought up from the same ambient temerature for the same amount of down time, such as overnight when many people do not leave the PC on.

There is 1.5 liters in the Zalman. 24/7 my load temps on the hottest core get to 71C. 1.375v 3333.33 MHZ. I am planning a new external cooler setup. Just not decided on a case design yet and I have been painting the house.

Ouch! Tell me about it. Garage here right now . It is the strippping that kills you. I picked up a cheapy belt sander.....it goes broke in a day and get another. Sander #2 seems like the real McCoy. I can apply some power to the tool and #2 is taking it OK. Stripping is tough. I am using a pretty coarse grit.

I always felt badly when my chips ran around 70C and felt some jumpy or slightly jerky performance i cannot quantify. I do not know if all chips "leak" at 70C but they say the warmer they get the more they "leak", an of couse eventually there will be serious problems and shut downs at truly high temperature.

One for the quad.

One for the VGA card.
