Quad Core - Storm to Fuzion Update.

about a week ago, I asked about upgrades to my watercooling.
after alittle talk, I got the fuzion and a new radiator + some extra goodies... but I am doing the upgrades a few days apart, so I can fully see the impact.

first upgrade, Storm (original version from last summer) to Fuzion.

first off, let me say this.
my entire goal of this set of upgrades, was to simply bring my load temps down by 10C.

as you can see, I didn't need to do much ... :D

Test Set Up.

Swiftech MCP655...
Dangerden Cylinder Res.
Old BIX Extreme something something radiator (cheapest dual one from last summer at dangerden)
1/2 ID set up.
Thermalright "Chillfactor" thermal paste.

PC.

Xeon 3210 at 8 x 450 with 1.48 volts.
P5B deluxe, with all available mods. Bios 1004.
8800 GTX.
2 gigs Mushkin PC8500.
1000 watt Silverstone PSU.

these are immediate results too.

the Storm was being used for the last week on this PC, so the thermalpaste has had time to set, and reach its best temps.
the Fuzion I just got today, and the results are from a block swap, so the thermalpaste hasnt really set in yet, so the temps may actually get better in about a week.
they went down about 3C over the last week with the storm.
so hopefully they will with the fuzion too.

but honestly, I am not worried about it at all.

if anyones wondering, I chose Wprime, cause its a brutal benchmark on the 1024 mark. takes about 6-7 minutes to finish, and uses all available cores.
in this case, all 4 cores are at 100% use to get the highest load temp possible.

..I've been debating on going to the Fuzion from the TDX for a while now. I'm at the same temps on idle @3.7GHz:1.3875v and about 37c idle @3.6GHz:1.350v.My load temps are the same as yours. Off to Petra's site for an order. I may be able to maitain 3.8GHz now @1.4375v.

Tips for Fuzion if your looking into it.

1. this block isnt very restrictive at all. nothing like the storm.
you may find your flow rates go alot higher.
for me personally, its always hard to bleed air, from a high flow loop.

2. people seem to complain the block is loud...
it is... if you have air in your loop.
this block almost forces you to bleed every single last bubble anywhere, out of your loop. even a minor little bubble in your radiator or something will make the block "noisy".
take the time to bleed every single air pocket out of your system. everywhere.
theres no leway with this block.

once its completly air tight, and any air you may have is somewhere like at the top of your res... then it gets to be a nice quiet block.

it took me about a hour, of letting the air bleed from my loop, at low speed on my pump to get all the air out of it.
this block almost forces you to have a near perfect loop, if you want complete silence. even alittle bubble somewhere, will make it noisy.

Use prime95 v25.1 small ffts loads all cores for quads as well and alot hotter than wprime 1024M :)

Why not use TAT? Doesn't TAT load intels better than any other program?

the tests wouldnt be comparable, since the storm block is already out of the loop.

I chose Wprime, cause it's predictable, and not easy to pass and uses all cores. no guess work. same results each time... so I dont have to watch a timer, or anything. just watch the temps.

Loading two cores with TAT (you cant load all 4 with TAT...) and the other two with P95/Orthos/etc set to small FFT's is better ;)

wow.. those are some nice results. Really goes to show what a difference a block designed to handle dual die can do.

That's exactly why I've been taking so long on trying to decide :)

Kunaak, what was your ambiant temp throughout your testing? Was it consistent from test to test?

Also, averaging the 11 temps in your TAT displays, I get an average temp with the Storm of 68.45 and 58.54 with the Fuzion.

I'll add your results to the summary thread once I know your ambiant temps. :toast:

Is the general consensus that Fuzion beats out Storm for quad cores only?

ambient temps are always near 60F.
thats the typical tempeture in my house.

Have been wondering why the Storm G4 hasn't been performing well on my QX6700.

Guess there's no time like the present to swap it out.

My next build will have a Fuzion...

Guys this is no big surprise really. On a dual core (single die) the fuzion beats the storm by ~5C stock, no bow or nozzle. So 10-11C on quad makes perfect sense... the storms cooling patch is just not big enough for the current quads.
