Kyro 2 + KT400 Problem
Hi,
A friend of mine is having constant crashes with his Kyro II card and a Gigabyte KT400 board.
Has anyone heard of this problem before with KT400's? is it well known or is his board messed up, this setup never work for him and were trying to get it to work or its gonna stay in the closet for 10 years. Its updated with latest bios and drivers etc...
Any tweaks he could try?
Cheers,

Kyro 2 chipset is very ropey with compatability with new chipsets esp AGP-8x ones.
TBH id ditch that aincient graphics card and upgrade him to a GF4MX or a GF FX52000, or faster if he can afford it.
I doubt that graphics card will work with that chipset.

I agree, ditch the kyro 2. While it was a good idea at it time, it is very outdated. You could but faster stuff for less than $80 us.

The problem with the Kyro II is that it's 2x AGP. It won't work on 4x/8x AGp motherboards like KT400A, NF2, ....
There's an easy fix though: the kyro 2 can easely be modded to 4x agp by flashing to a modified bios and closing a bridge on the PCB.
I'll try to find the modded bios & take a pic of my ol' kyro 2 for you... hang on a sec.

here is the modded bios
And here's a pic of the two soldered dots you've got to connect. Silver paint is the easiest way imho.

wow thanks m8, that's great fix! I'll get him to do that pronto :toast:

sounds like fun, I may try that with my kyro II just to make it agp 4x.
-
might want to try to new KYRO drivers out. Find them at the Futuremark.com site or guru3d

Cool, new drivers
Though I doubt its going to fix this AGP problem, just sounds to easy....
But it would be great if it did, ofcourse.
