Creative has finally released a non-beta driver for the X-Fi. They still don't have the features working.... but it is progress.
I can't get these or any other Creative drivers to install on my system with my X-fi Xtreme Music. Creative insists I have my on-board sound enabled in the BIOS because my device manager (Vista) says "multimedia audio controller".
The driver comes up with "Setup did not detect a compatible product" or some such error message.
I've replicated this error across the eVGA 680i board, Asus P5W DH, and Asus P5N32-SLI SE and with the XtremeMusic and X-fi Fatality.
Under Vista 64-bit.
Does anyone have ANY information on this problem? Creative says I need to do a clean boot. That didn't help, nor did a reformat (attempted several times with two different Vista discs)
My x-fi plat is running fine in home prem 64bit
I just want the remote to work
I'm considering buying the Creative X-Fi ExtremeGamer Sound Card to squeeze out the last bit of performance from my rig (see sig below).
I have Vista Ultimate, and everything is running fine. The last thing I want to do is add a component that doesn't work. Is this working now? Or should I hold off for a while?
Thanks in advance...
Reading this semi-article about how Vista's sound driver model has changed, I would hold off completely:

I have loads of rare disco vax that I just bought on ebay that I can't listen to because the phono input on my Elite pro doesn't show in the mixer.
Please please Creative with suger on top. I need it bad. :(
Now if they will only come out with working XP drivers!
