TOPOWER TOPOWER POWERTRAIN 1000 WATT....The definitive power supply ?

Afther a couple of week having this box on a corner of my desk, i decided to open it :)

Topower powertrain the only one 1000 watt modular power supply with "regular" dimensionwith 80% certified efficency.
Obviusly SLI approved, enough to run 2 8800gtx .

the multimeter is at 11,96v and OCCT is 12,77v . The important thing is that the multimeter never variate frim that value during all the test:

i was kind of wanting you to offer an example, or a few ;)

I've got Topower 1000P9 U14 and 800P8 U14 models, and they differ with yours. Will post pics later. And interesting thing : 1000 and 800W PSUs use the SAME pcb, and all main parts like transformers, inductors, are the same. 800W model just have smaller caps and not soldered wires for 12V5 and 12v6. I will do some overclock to 1000w :-D. And nice quiet 135mm blue led fan BTW. I like these new topowers, they rox. Going to place mine old Hiper Type-M 730W back to box, and use new toy in rig :-D. Will test some later.

P.S. also have Topower 600 U14 (which have same internals as old SG 600W) and Zippy GSM-6600. (Love zippy for their 2% regulation, real best PSUs evar)

Warning. Topower U14 600,800,1000W PSUs don't meet safety standard (limiting +12V current to 20A per connector)! It will fire all available 60amps to single wire if load will take it. And 100% fire situation:

Can you put off the cover to look inside PSU? I want to compare. And mine don't have that +12V Rail combined\split switch :(

CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 850-EMBA and 1000 are queiter than this Top-1000. I had this CM 850 for tests. CM has 135mm too.

And maybe you notice - Tagan label on PCB, also Tagan on PCI-E conns. Topower made OEM PSUs for Tagan. Turbojet 1000 is the same dual-trans Topower :D

Can I ask, why? Have not got deal with Tagan in real life.
Today measured peak-peak noise on rails - everything is in ATX spec. But, i feel dislike about stability and power parameters of these PSUs. Zippy PSL-6720 was my favourite ever. The only PSU which keep noise lower 2%. I guess, some another Tier 1 PSU's can do this too, but haven't tested PC&P & Enermax Galaxy yet. Other PSU's like OCZ GXS700, Topower, Hiper, CoolerMaster are far from zippy's tech :). And to be honest, Zippy price min 150$ more than CM 850\Topower 1000 :D.

that won't be easy i'd say but with a couple of ATI R600 or new nvidias in SLI +quad heavily overclocked you may get close :confused: donno

so do you recommend this wiring setup for psu longevity? :lol:

btw if i'd had the option to go pc+p i would have.

and zippy's are too expensive for moi...thy'd want to be good considering the price.


...this topower looks similar to mine internally...but not identical; some components are different; but i cant tell you which ones specifically...

i can say that with what i have loaded my psu doesnt even get warm :) the casing stays cold to the touch externally under load anyway...

Internally Galaxy 1000 W uses more and better components: its rectifying bridges can handle double the current compared to Tagan’s and it uses four transistors on its active PFC circuit (Tagan’s uses three), not to mention the whole second +12 V filtering circuit, not available on Tagan’s. This could be a good product if Tagan labeled it at a lower power rating (e.g. 850 W) and lowered a lot its price. Which the current settings, this product is simply a no buy.

Even its terrific external presentation has its flaws, and you would learn them only when trying to assemble a high-end system. The absence of a modular cabling system is critical: the cables with the special shielding are very stiff and also unused cables will block the PC internal airflow – since these cables are really thick this can be a real problem.

Well, I just put 840W on the 12V rails again and still no catastrophic failure, no smoke, no flash, no bang...not even an electronic sausage. Overall there was 997W on the entire PSU and it coped just fine. Sadly 1kw is the limit for me so that's as far as I can push things.

Now I did see some alarming ripple at first glance but I think it's a byproduct of my summing all four 12V rails then splitting the load out to the 2 inputs on the SM268. The first time I ran it I did things a bit differently and only saw 80mV under the same load so I'm thinking the readings I'm seeing now (roughly double that) are a byproduct of the rails being out of electrical phase with each other. I'm going to isolate the rails and do some testing that way and see what the rails do at 17.5A load individually.

[Edit:] Yep, sure enough the rails individually only hit about 40mV of ripple under a 17.5A load. Combining a couple of rails increases that reading even though the load is halved per rail. I'd have to say that it's not as nasty as I first took it to be.

And one more notice:
I have also TOPOWER TOP-800P8 SEZ. It have EXACTLY the same PCB, the same transformers, difference only in some not important (for power rating) details and 1000W model have more powerful fan (-HB for 1000, and -MB for 800). So you can choose what to think:
1. 800w model is cheapy 1000w :)
2. 1000w model is just overrated label 800w ))

Anyway, I woun't put these psus on expensive Quadcore + 8800sli\r600 setup. I'm sure. Will change mine Topower ASAP.

The only brand of PSU I've bought over the past 6 years is PC Power & Cooling. A friends father who is an electronics engineer at NASA opened mine up to see what all the fuss was about regarding the price and after putting it back together pretty much said...... damn.... you definitely get what you pay for with this little piece of hardware.

I've only got the 750w SLI Silencer and it rocks my two RAID arrays, 2 optical drives, dual 8800GTS 640mb cards, and a crap load of fans, among other things.
