Which would work better for radiator options

Im trying to decide how to mount a radiator in my case before i buy it, it is an EXTREMELY tight fight and if i mount a 120.2 radiator up top then i will lose at least 1 pci slot, im only gona have a CPU and NB block in the loop and next year i plan to go quad core. Heres what i was thinking for either option...

Swiftech MCR-220 Radiator mounted to the top of the case or

ThermoChill PA120.1 mounted to the top or rear of the case

granted the dual 120 would probably cool better but how much of a difference is there with the thermochill single and the dual 120...

I'm not sure on this, but I *think* the PA120.1 performs the same as the MCR-220. Maybe better. I saw some testing awhile ago but I can't remember the exact numbers. Maybe I'm crazy. That wouldn't surprise me.

You're probably thinking how the PA120.2 matches/beats slightly the MCR-320. That one is on the Thermochill site, I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but it's definitely there.

Anyway I'd be more inclined to lose the NB block and mount the 3x120mm rad to the outside of the case.

:rofl: that will never work, its either a dual rad mounted to the top of the case or a single rad either mounted on the top or rear of the case :p Im just trying to decide how to go, if the thermochill single works as good as the MCR 220 then the single would save me alot of room.

If it's between those two, I'd get the MCR-220. If you were asking between the PA160 and the MCR-220, Then that might be a toss up.

EDIT: After taking a look at BillA's testing that is at the end of Marci's OP in the "A Challenge" thread, it looks like a PA160 with a fan @ 12v performs about the same as an MCR-220 with two of the same fans @ 7v.

I've been using the PA160 in a loop with an E6600 and an X1900XT, and it's been working well. However, I just got an MCR-320 that will be replacing it, so we'll see how that goes. :D

does anyone have any stats on how the Black Ice Pro models compare to these other two also?

Everything I have seen says BIP is worse. But it is thin :rolleyes:

hmm this is a dilemma, i guess i will just have to wait and take some actual measurements inside the case once the parts are installed and then decided on the water cooling setup components for sure. Is there any type of aftermarket housing i could buy to mount the rad on the outside of the case on the top?

Um, why don't you sacrifice the first 5.25" bay instead? Place it towards the front!

I only have 2 bays and both are used.

allot of people around here roof mount them external with standoffs. (only requires 4 small holes in case) makes fitting a triple easy on any case. (except my current one:\ ) also having the rad overhang the rear of the case makes tube routing clean and easy:)

Yes but i didnt want the fan and rad exposed, thats why if i did mount it outside id like some kidna housing.

Actually now that i think about it i may be able to manage it..if i were to move my chromatic windmill up to the top bay that would give me a couple more inches to slide the rad forward so that it didnt interfere with the pci slots.... but ill have to do measurements to be exactly sure...

Move the chromatic windmill to the very bottom. Trust me it looks good there. Then you have tons of space for the rad.

very bottom of what, the 2 cd drive bays i have :rofl: i still have to fit a CD rom drive in there, the only thing im worried about is instead of putting PCI slots they put 3 PCI-E 1x slots which i have absolutley no use for on this gigabyte board :/

Yes, move it to the very bottom. I find that anything that is illuminated looks very good either at the very top or the very bottom. Move the CDROM drives up.
