according to that review the twinmos 3700 will outdo anything else at slow timings so its the best memory for anyone on an intel, which i am about to buy.
So you think i should dump my new xms3500 and get some 3700 twinmos instead? or is that review a bit dodgy?
why for an intel? what about an amd rig?
My guess is that Intel rigs thrive on bandwidth because they are quad pumped, while AMD rigs perform better with aggressive low latency memory.Quote:

The Intel is starved for memory bandwidth, the more it gets the happier it is.
The Athlon CPU can't use the bandwidth it has, so it gets little gain from an increase in memory bandwidth.
WHat this means is that, Intel will benefit more from an increase in fsb, where the AMD will benefit more from cas2. Which is why many of the best overclockers would rather have a 235 fsb at 2,2,4,2, than 250 at 2.5,4,8,4.
i've heard the exact opposite. That amds like more bandwidht then there p4 counterparts. I was reading some review of the xp3200 and they mentioned that. Can't seem to find a link.
but it was along the lines that the athlon got more of a boost going to a 200mhz fsb then the p4 did going to it.
The boost to 200fsb gave the Athlon a way to use more of its supply membandwidth, but the intel cpu is starving for more, where the AMD needs a quicker way to access it.
An example of this is how the 4/5 divider on an intel works far better than on an AMD, since the AMD doesn't get enough benefit to outweigh the latency probs.
GVCryan is right...the quad pumped FSB of the Intel loves all the bandwidth it can get and the latencies don't matter as much to it. Although from what I've been reading lately, it's not really the CAS setting that makes the most difference on an AMD board, it's the RAS to CAS Delay setting that really helps if you can keep it at 2.
Be a bit cautious with Twinmos CH5 sticks...
i got 4 x 512 modules of winbond ch5 twinmos 3200 sticks and they CANT do 2522 they are programmed to do 2532 however.After a bit of burning in...and max 2.8V (IC7-G limited) they went as high as 210mhz @ 2532 and 222mhz @ 2.5 7 3 3 which is crap IMO....for the big name CH5 chips have nowadays....on the other hand 2 x 256 XMS 3500 sticks i bought back in christmass without burning in at all went as high as 225 @ 2522 @ 3V...so i already sold my 1gb twinmos and ordered some XMS 3500 sticks again which come with the CH5 chips AFAIK but clock a lot higher....at the end of the day what u get is what u pay...XMS is the best but a bit overpriced.
Twinmos with CH5 aint bad at all for 210mhz @ 2532 for £60 ;)
so from those 7 posts i can assume nobody has actually tried the 3700? specifically on an intel?
i have a 256mb stick of the twinmos 3700 43b for 2 months now. have only running it in sync so far and 200 is the highest fsb i can get unmodded with my 8rda+. it runs on cas 2 without any probs, but wont run on 2 for ras to cas delay and tras precharge.
yeah i heard the same thing, i read something on tecchannel.de about it. dont know a lot about intel boards, but theres on board that only supports pc2700, but it outperforms other intel boards with higher fsbs and higher memory clock because it uses lower latencies. and the newly introduced PAT technology is again an optimization for latency.Quote:

If they changed and now ships it with winbond CH-5 it should be a good stick and that will oc nicely
my Twinmos PC3700 has Twinmos chips and not winbond. I'll have to wait to see what i can get out of it when i get my NF7-S board this week.
Usually Twinmos chip don't oc as well as winbond
twinmos pc3700 is just rebadged mosel chips..
for some reason they dont rebadge their winbond chips anymore, prob overclockers can identified them for easily
Well.... I had..... they're runnin' without a problem as high as 237MHz ( 475DDR ) with 2.7V and 2.5-3-7-3 on a EPoX 4PEA+... Haven't actually tried them with MAX timings, I needed stability to be @110%.Quote:

I have twinMOS 3700 with twinmos chips - they are happly running in my intel rig at 255FSB 1:1 - running by SPD @3.1V - so im very happy with my twinMOS :D

well if you think of the timings it runs on yes, but 250@ low timings is still faster than 220 on best timings :)
I've got 2 x 256mb Twinmos PC3700 which only come with the TwinMos labelled chips at 220fsb sync. CAS2 5-3-2 on my NF7S 2.0 at 2.7volts, which is std for these sticks. Have been as high as 230fsb. These sticks work fine for me, although i do agree that they will not take TRCD of 2, only 3......same as all of the OCZ stuff i have tried, but higher fsb's.
how high can you get @ cl2.5?
The twinmos pc3700 ddr absolutely rocks. Check out this 3dmark compare link. I can complete 3dmark at 252FSB with the memory at 1:1 ratio using 7-3-3 Cas2.5 timings in a P4C800 using a P4 2.8C. I'm planning on buying two more sticks this weekend, just because this memory rocks and I might as well get some more while it's around.
edit: btw folks these are 4.3ns chips, as far as I know they are the fastest available. Mine are twinmos chips labeled TMD7608F8E43B

the twinmos PC3700 is definately the choice for Intel rigs only
for AMD rigs running CAS 2.5 is a BIG hit... i'd rather go for the winbond CH5..
Vrzone had their stick running @ 24x MHz CAS2 @ 2.9V... pretty impressive
i didnt notice a big hit when changing from 2.0 to 2.5 ...
