Hmmm
Hipro tested Striker and this is not good mobo for high oc and is slow
25FPS slow with compare to IN9-Max form ABIT
Regards
Martin
well Hipro isn't a day to day user either , if you compare both mobo's at stock(meaning no volt mods no extra cooling...) I don't think there's much difference between Striker and Beast. All marketing crap form the sponsored reviewers/overclockers. All boards have their issues and stories, too bad no boards are bulletproof anymore like they used to be...
Also I don't like to read how easy it is with the Striker/Beat eg to reach 500Fsb it can be done but I can't boot from it like that from the bios, 475FSB is my max but not really stable with the stock heatpipe, maybe higher via some tweak utility. I don't tend to volt mod my 320 euro board not even here at extreme forum.
Also we don't all ave Engineering Sample CPU' swhich tend to overclock easier with lower Vcore, nice to attract peeps attention but far from day to day overclocking.
Only thing to hope for Abit/Asus users is that they keep on developing and improving biosses to get some of those little bugs out of the away. And get rid of those hilarious heatpipes , they suck ass !!!!
If you go Stiker or Beast man there are some nasty bugs but overal for general purposes great boards with that extra bling (that's what you pay for)
What do I think? I think it's way too expensive.
The best board for C2D??? i personally dont think there is such a thing of "the best C2D mobo"
they all have cons and pros
but i like my AB9 QUAD GT a lottttt , tryed 680I ,DS3,bx2 and my last one AB9 QGT (the best one sooo far ) love this board
Ok.so you havent tried tha striker yet so you can't commentQuote:

First off, my CPU is a retail one....;)Quote:

Now as for the Striker and the IN9......
BOTH of them tested "AS IS".....NONE of them is moded......BOTH of them are with their default heatsinks.....
Lately the ASUS Striker was moded with Swiftech heatsink onto NB chipset.......IN9 is AS IS.....NO MODS on it yet, only a fan over the NB heatsink....
I've tested them both at THE EXACT SAME config with the EXACT SAME hardware......
With the Striker I had 50 to 60MHz lower overclocking on AIR (CPU) than the IN9......
On the Striker I had my rams working at 415MHz and Cas 3-2-2-5-1T-8-21-2-6-2-7.8us MAX, where on IN9 they do 431MHz with the EXACT SAME timmings and voltages......
I'm a bencher so I've disabled all things like LAN,USB,etc. on both of them....
SO do you think I'm interested of "promoting" one mobo and have bad scores OR have the best scores despite with mobo it is.....?...
IF ASUS Striker is good for me, I'll bench with it.....
IF ABIT IN9 is good for me, I'll bench with it.....
I care which one will take my CPU higher under subzero so as to bench well....I DON'T care which mobo will this be......I wan't the best I can get....;)
Benching both "at the edge"......Striker at 10 time reboots, benches 4 - 6 times and the other times, freezes......
IN9 benches 10 times out of 10.....No freezes at all......
ALL these under AIR ......
I've tested Striker under LN2 and I must say it's a pain in the arss to bench with, PLUS I've lost about 150MHz of overclockability from ABIT AW9D-MAX mobo......
I'll test IN9 - after moding it and insulating it - and if they do the same, I'll go with the fastest of them......;)
P.S. I'm not sponsored by anyone.....I don't get payed to do what I'm doing......I've spent OVER 1000$ ONLY for LN2 till now and NOONE told me: "here, get some money for your LN2 and electricity you spend to bench for us M8"
Only MY POCKET knows how much I have spent till now.....
Thanks for clearing things up Hipro.
All in all, the one thing xtreme about the Striker is the price.
It should be called Anus Striker Xtremely Xpensive. :D
Any sight on some 3D wolrd records coming from you Hipro?
please let us know how IN9 performs under LN2
My Striker has been rock solid stable with my settings in my sig, no problem at all, running vista HOME PREM all day and night stable.......love the combo, also using 4x1 gigs of d9gmh is rock solid stable............love the board, only issue i have is vcore vdroop after 1600 fsb...but im sure future bioses will fix this issue.
hi Gar are you running raid with your drives on premium?Quote:

I chose the Striker Extreme. But, I can't get the voltage right I guess, becuase i guess it doesn't "stick" to what is set in the BIOS. But, for SLI - it's been great. Well, at least until I put Vista on it and can't get driver support for CRAP.
Acutally, I'm also 0 for 2 on BIOS upgrades. I went from the 0702 to the 0802 to get rid of the Sound Blaster/popping noise with SLI enabled issue. Asus released teh 0803 so i thought I would upgrade to it just to put the board on an offical BIOS.
The first upgrade caused the board to hang on post until (tip thanks to an XS Forum reader) I left the battery off the board for a couple of hours. Well, this is BIOS update #2 and its doing the same thing - HANG on POST. Not exactly the same way as the other board. So, 2 BIOS updates and neither of them have gone without issues. But, that is probalby just my bad luck................
Update: The battery trick worked again: It's alive agian.
In the new 0803 BIOS, be careful. At certain FSB speeds, if 1.2v HT voltage is set to AUTO, the board will pump a whopping 2.0v into a 1.2v circuit.

25 fps in a game is bloody much if you ask me , I think he was impying to 25Mhz FSB

This paragraph ment Hipro that you guys push these boards for extreme testing and benching and it's not not a direct attack or anything, you guys are far superior to my humble little self I just wanted to comment, that for those that like SLI and a healthy easy overclock ( 450mhz or so 24/7) and a little bling the Striker ain't bad . I just want a day to day safe and stable overclock and sometimes a bit more to bench. On a note I always thought the ES versions always seemed to be better, meaning a higher overclock at a lower voltage ? I almost bought one via Ebay thx for the tip :p:
It should be called Anus Striker Xtremely Xpensive.
And indeed The 680I is expensive but isn't the Abit in the same price league ? Only 5 euros (8 dollars) difference here in my country, EVGA is 49 euro's less... (59 dollars)
If one board manufacturer would release a board with the same specs and extras and it would cost 100 euro's less then his rivals he couldn't keep up with the demand , but hell no they just suck our the cash out of those that wanted that little extra....

I downgraded since I tested the 0803 to 0402 again and I must say the voltages are spooked , I need less voltage on my CPU VTT ( set at 1.35 now and reads 1.55  in Probe, previously 1.45 for 1.5 probe read out) and NB ( according to Asus probe it was overvolting quite a bit now, so I backed down to EVA2000's tips) but a bit more on the CPU core to get 1.55 for 1.41 Probe volts... Reflashed 3 times to 0402 now issue remains :(
Maybe my comment was a bit misplaced or badly phrased ( very bad in that), it's good that there are mad overclockers which test these boards to their limits, I never dream of pushing my boards this far, but some comparisons aren't reflecting the real overclock many users can get on daily basis( we just ain't got the hardware or cooling for that), plus there's more to a pc then just running nature test at 500fps for the average users...
:D LOL, just replace "Striker" with "Stroker" and you got it figured out:)Quote:

Actually in 2k1 Nature bench, I get 950fps with the ASUS Striker and 975fps on ABIT IN9 with single VGA..... :)Quote:

you guys are nuts !! doubt it will give anything though in games
I agree I have tried way too many mobos and trashed most of them :(
http://www.blazingpc.com/showpost.ph...88&postcount=2
And yes I did have to RMA my striker but that was my fault for tightening my phase head to tight...
so far the striker has given me both my highest OC and my only 24x7 4.4ghz stable OC.
Is it worth the price...well it depends on you but it is for me ;)
Hi !
Need to know in my motherboard with pcprobeII the sbcore is 1,71volt, while VTT is 1,5v.
Since the beginning (bios 0701) both with all parameters at default and now that I put my QX6700 at 3200Mhx (x12).
Anyone can confirm me sb 1,71v it's fine or what.
Pls also confirm that having 2x8800GTX sli I should enabled in bios nvidia EX.
thank you,
ciao
andrea
NB 1.65 for high overclocks SB however around 1.55 seems to me more feasible
I have a Striker Extreme and its a waste of money. Unless you're getting it for SLI there is no point.
And from what i've seen all of the boards have some really dumb strap voltage thing going on that still isn't fixed.
I agree but only if your limited by your cooling...The striker is an awesome board for the extreme overclockers with at a min TEC but preferably an SS unit.
