680i SLI is too expensive? Asus as the solution : P5N32-E SLI PLUS

I've not seen any post about the brand new P5N32-E SLI PLUS, do you know about this card?

The nForce 680i SLI is a great chipset... but really expensive. Asus makes two nForce 680i SLI boards, the Striker and the P5N32-E SLI. I've just received a new one, the "PLUS" version of the P5N32-E SLI. On the box, no indication about the chipset. When you read the manual, it's only written "nVidia DUALX16 MCP" with no more precision.

The answer is giver by CPU-Z : Asus bypassed the nVidia 680i SLI solution by using in the same time a low coast 650i SLI and a 570 SLI. Waow :)

Now, we have to test it to see if the chipset performs great. As far as i've played with the mobo, the BIOS is the same as the P5N32-E SLI, it can use EPP memory or activate Linkboost.

Well, that's right, the VRM is more "solide" on the PLUS, but on the "normal" P5N32-SLI, it's written 680i SLI chipset on the box, on the manual and on CPU-Z. With the PLUS, it's not written 680, there's no "known" name for the chipset.

Yes, there is...C55=650

Yes I took a look.

When I write no known nvidia chipset written... I mean in the user manual of the P5N32-E SLI PLUS. But I agree, in the Asus link provided by Heidfirst, it's clearly written C55 (without XE).

Well....I don´t have any SLI certified memory...but I belive if you do..then it would be somewhat useful...giving you the option to set different OC profiles or something like that...

U got one PCI-E 16x thru the 650i NB and the other thru the 590SLI SB...so there is full 2*16x PCI-E support.

Thanks Naughtyboy, If you hear of it helping post it. How do you people like this new board. I have the P5N-E SLI and its a blast. You have to make sure there is plenty of cooling on the NB it gets really hot when overclocked. The SB does too.

Asus is getting funny with the name on this one.

P5N32-E SLI = 680
P5N32-E SLI Plus = 650

How far can you get the fsb with a lower multiplier on your quad? Most of the nvidia can't make it above 300 Fsb.

Perhaps ASUS is distancing themselves from the 680?

i know the board is supposed to have dual x16 slots as mentioned in the manual (and numerous times on the web :p:)

I managed 340 FSB with a Q6600/P5N32-E SLI without trying very hard. Others have done similar.

I don't know yet for the PCI-E rated "only" 8X. I'm using Vista, there are no nForce 6xx driver for this OS, but I don't think it's the pb.

For the max FSB, i'll try today (sorry, I live in Luxembourg, it's not the same "time" as the most of you :p). I'm trying to get the max of my quad core for the moment, by increasing the multiplier only (QX6700 installed right now). When I'll know is best, I'll try the FSB test :)

in terms of raw chipset performance this board shouldn't lag behind on the P5N32-E SLI and the P5N-E SLI as all boards use the same C55 northbridge, only the southbridge is different. and this shouldn't change the chipsets memory Characteristics or overclocking capacity

Thats the one I´m using ATM..

Without fine tuning (Auto voltages for chipset), I have a max to around 350 FSB. Won't pass the BIOS at 355. This is with stock cooling for the chipset.
