Stuck with VERY low FSB @ DFI LAN Party UT nForce 4 Expert DR

Hey there,
well, my opteron is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Since he's got a very low multiplicator I'm going to need a high fsb on my DFI LAN Party UT nForce 4 Expert DR.

Well I tried to get a stable 300 FSB with my AMD 4000+ Sandy. I lowered the multi. down to 8, set the FSB to 300, set the memory divider to 2:3 so that the memory runs exactly at 200 mhz and the cpu at 2400 Mhz. Of course I lowered down that LTD multiplier to 3.No way, even with 1.65 vChipset. It doesnt even come to that place where the windows logo is displayed at booting. The memory timings are set to auto.

What can I do now? I found an article running that board at 300 FSB without increasing any voltages and up to 425!

Don't say anything yet, I have an 3700+ that isn't working around the 290 on my ultra-d but my new opty 165 does well 300 at stock volts... So it's also some part of your processor self..:slapass:

Max async latency : 9-10(9 works fine for me)
Read Preamble :6-7(6 works fine for me)
DS/DDS settings is importen also if you use 2x512 or 4x512 or 2x1gb.

8,1 (for 4x512) and 1,1 for(2x512)

Seriously? Because I'm afraid I won't get past 2350 with 250 FSB. I read these articles running a Venice 3000+ with 450 FSB with that DFI Board...

Maybe LTD Voltage increase?

I have 2x 1024 GEIL and 2x 512 Kingston Value RAM.

Yes its Memory settings and so...its very importen to do it right, if you dont do it right you will not go so high you want on the fsb :) , i did have same problem like you before i fixed them :)

Didnt help at all... I have applied the memory timings manually, but it didnt help. I bootet with 200 x 8 and 2:3 as memory ratio and set 250 FSB with clock gen - The system rebootet immediately.

Seriously, I dont know how you guys get a high fsb. And since this board is known as a good overclocker I don't know what to do now.

Do have any camera to take bios shots for me?, maybe i see the problem then,also try divider like 166 or 133 on the memmory and T2

don't boot with 200mhz fsb. boot at like.. 210 and watch what happens ;)

here are my settings. I've been running the system 1 year 24/7 with 244x11,5 @ 1.475 vCore on water, so I never really needed that high FSB. I just want to make sure my board won't limit my opteron which arrives tomorrow.

my opteron arrived today, its a 3g captable 0615 empw.

Well, I dont know what to do, I'm stuck at FSB 265. I tried 290, doesnt show the windows load screen and stays at backuping cmos .. okay. I tried to raise the vCore to 1.4.... If I raise the Chipset voltage to 1.62 instead of 1.52 the system doenst even show me a picture, the monitor goes black.

My bios settings are up there - Please help me I really, I'd apreciate that so much. I dont want to let that baby run at 2.4g, and its under water...

Have you tried 1:1 or other dividers? All my 2 DFI NF4 Ultra and 3 cpus have problems going high with dividers. And it is not uncommon for dividers to give problems.

Edit: and it would be useful to know what kind of ram you have. I can only see that you have 3GB, which indicates 2x512MB and 2x1GB. Have you tried with only one stick of ram (in the orange slot furthest away from the cpu? At least on the non expert boards it is the best one...)

I have 2x GEIL DDR 400 CL 3-4-4-8 and 2x Kingston Value RAM DDR 400 CL 3-3-3-8

I managed to boot with 280 FSB... But why do I have such problems? All the other people with that board were easy going over 300. I even tried it with 1.5 vCore!

I raised the LTD Voltage (Whatever this is ;-) ) to 1.3 and the Chipset Voltage to 1.59. My RAM divider is 1:2 now. 1:1 is impossible with my ddr400! No way to boot with an other divider ... Hell, that can't be serious!

If I try to boot with 290 FSB the Windows Logo freezes while fading under dos.

I really can't belive what I'm doing wrong. Here are the latest bios settings.

Try with only one stick of ram. With 4 it is more demanding on the memory controller.

And by the way, how do you know your chip can do 3Ghz? You may have a bummer and it may need more voltage. Steppings are not a definite guarantee of nothing.

well, its not working with one ram stick... Even with 290x8 it doenst boot... I'm confused, how did you guys get your ht that high... Maybe are my memory timings too tight? But I dont think so, I've already posted my bios screenshots.

Well, I for one have TCCD that can do above DDR600.

And to avoid the hassle with dividers, I always buy at least 10x multi cpus.

So I can't be of much help to you in this case.

But one thing I do know. All my cpus and boards overclock less with multipliers than 1:1.

Try this....And with one stick still!


Cpu vid startup value: 1.45v
Cpu vid control:1.XXv(give this value so you have 1.48v with + 104%
cpu vid special 104%
LTD voltage control: 1.4-1.5v

I managed to boot and bench with a 334 htt @ 3ghz with one Kingston 512 stick and TRC = 12, TRFC = 16, TRRD = 4, TRAS = 8.

Well, I tried it with a single GEIL stick and the same settings and could only boot with 280 htt. Anything past 280 doenst even show the windows booting sequence, the system reboots after showing that table (that one before the windows logo shows up). I think / hope its a timing issue ... Everything I know about that GEIL sticks is whats written on them: CL 3-8-4-4.

vDDR is 2.66 but acually seems to be aroud 2.75

Can anyone help me ?

Mixing ram IC's and O/C ing them just never seems to work as their drive strength needs are seldom in common. If you insist on pursuing using four dimms and O/Cing the try running even ram drive strengths and odd data drive reduction on the Ram. I'd start at 6 and 3 respectively.

also, set all the timings other than the primary 4 to auto. yes, that includes max async latency and read preamble ;)

what pci devices do you have? what bios are you using?

okay, I got it. 4 DIMMs doesnt seem to work ... But why is it not working with this GEIL KIT?

2 GB would be enough, so I'll throw out the Kingston Kit, if the GEIL is working. I tried it with every single RAM divider, nothing ...
