DFI LP UT ICFX3200-T2R/G memory Issues

Board arrived this afternoon & appears to have a Memory Initialisation Problem.

Memory tried is 2 x 512Mb Geil PC2 6400 & 2 x 1024Mb Geil PC2 4300. Whilst the latter is only 533Mhz, it still shows the same error code on the display of "C1" which I cant find out anything concrete about. DFI forums is dead at the time of Posting. :rolleyes:
I did read somewhere that there should be a RED LED-resistor lit next to the 24Pin PSU Connection. Mine lights a yellow/light orange colour as soon as the Bios Starts screaming 1 long continuous Beep for about 5 or 6 seconds before pausing & starting again. With no Ram in the board at all, there is just one continuous Beep without a pause until you turn the power off.

The PSU is a very healthy PC P&C 1KW Quad SLI. I have tried all the tricks in the book. Battery out resets whilst I drink Gallons of coffee before trying again: Tried single sticks in all Slot combinations - just always the same result. I don`t have another brand of Ram to try but both kits work perfectly in a Pentium D based Shuttle PC, so the RAM definately isn`t faulty.

After waiting 6 months for this board, I can`t believe the Irony of my sample trying to keep itself a piece of "Vapoware". :(

Does anyone have any similar issues or know of any issues like this?

What BIOS does the DFI use? Award, etc.

did you try to boot with only one dimm? Perhaps the boardis defaulting to to low a voltage.

I`ve tried all sorts of Ram configurations to get the Board to post & it`s no-go! That`s with 15 minute breaks on Reset Cmos with the battery in & out, tried all Ram slots with pairs of & single Dimms. Believe me, If I could try Half a Dimm, it`d be done already.

With all respect, this isnt TOP-LINE Ram & if the Bios is undervolting on it`s Debut, some questions need to be asked why?

To be quite frank, it either has to be the Geil Ram aint compatible as both 1GB & 2GB kits work in a Shuttle PC with a Skt775 D type Intel Chip, or this board is fugged. I can not understand any board being released that would deliberately undervolt the ram at default settings. That would be quite unforgiveable for & with Stock Ram components.

Is your 8-pin ATX power connector seated all the way? I can get the single long beep with your same memory or others by slightly raising the 8-pin ATX power connector. Also ensure the clear CMOS jumper is on the first two pins from left to right if you are looking at the board from the power/reset button side. Before you power up, removed the power cable from the power supply, then press and hold the power and reset buttons at the same time for five seconds.

The only time I have gotten C1 error my ram was DOA.

My board came in this afternoon and I booted right up w/ 2 x 1gb Corsair D9 modules luckily. Sorry to hear about your luck mate. I suppose you've tried the single module in the last bank trick right?

Dude, there's not red LED near the 24-pin. There should be a orange LED near the 24-pin which indicates the memory is getting powered up.
Try doing the following:
Press down RESET switch and hold
Press down POWER switch and hold
Release RESET switch - system will power up
Release POWER switch - done

Hi Bingo,

Everything you have mentioned is fine & I have worked the 8-pin ATX connector in & out a few times but no change. I also tried the 5 Second Dual button press several times to no avail. I have even tried a different CMOS jumper as the supplied one was feeling a little slack & still no change.

Can you confirm if it`s a Yellow/orange LED-Resistor or a Red LED-Resistor that signals the Ram is getting enough Power by the ATX 24-Pin connector? Someone is saying it should be RED over here at DFI:

I bet this is an spd issue...you should talk to Geil and see if they have tested with this board.

i had NO issues with OCZ using Micron, Elpida, PSC and Promos IC's on BP PCB so I have a feeling you just need to talk to your ram vendor

I`d agree that another type of Ram would be the only sure way to put this to rest, but Bingo13 said a couple of posts up he used the same RAM without issue. :confused:

The manual says there should be a Red LED lit at the ATX 24-pin connector and the Standby LED should be red. BOTH mine are Yellow which could suggest the RAM and/or the PCI slots are NOT getting power. Problem is, the manual doesn`t tell you what Yellow LED`s actually mean. The stuff I read is in Section2 Page 67 of the Pink Maunal! As well as a Pink Manual, it`s looking like I got a Gay Board!

Flytek, what colour is your Standby LED by the Comm Port on Btm edge of board please?

Does it change colour after the Post beep from powering on?

the standby led on the bottom of the mobo is the same yellow orange as the 24pin led...
as soon as power is applied to the mobo it come on and remains that way while there is pwr to the mobo.
the 24pin one only comes on when the mobo is turned on with its pwr switch.

I bet you nailed it, tbh the bios is nice and loose for first timers..

One evening on a x6800 retail and she's chugging away at 4.3ghz orthos blend, could not have asked for more. I don't go for Banzai fsb's though as Rgone would put it, just a nice 310fsb 14x multi, at around 1.61vcore on phase.

There's just so much to play with, I have only used 2t yet loose sceondaries admittedley for the time being, next up 1T.

I'd like to congratulate the dfi testing team on what I'd call a job very well done, remarkable in fact, no hardware or software issues at all so far. Got some gaming left to do, but she seems to work fine with my HDA Xplosion soundacrd too, none of those non recognised pci slot devices I've had on other boards in the past...

PM me your RAM part numbers. I cycled through 7 different sets of Geil memory this morning without an issue but that does not mean there could not be an issue with the SPD. Both LED's are yellow during normal operation. Have you tried a different power supply? I can recreate your single beep in three different ways, the 8-pin connector being loose, not having the cpu/fan combination seated properly, and memory (tried some older DDR2-533) that would not boot.

Yeah Bingo13, check your PM's. I just emailed Geil USA the same info. I do have a 14 day RMA available from suppliers. This Ram is about 4 months old from purchase, maybe 5 tops. Tbh, I didn`t ever expect the 2GB 533 (PC2 4300) kit to work, but thought it was worth a shot. No suprises getting the same problem!

I dont have any other Compatible PSU`s kicking around, but then who does after forking out £350 for a PC P&C 1KW Quad SLI Mutha! :D
The only other I have is an Antec 550W & whilst I can mimic a 24-pin connector, I can`t get around the 8-pin connector requirement.

PC P&C works fine on a DFI nF4 SLI DR board.
