Nice Andre..keep it coming..

Wait a second....
Andre, this board allows socketF Opterons to run on non-reg. DDR2????? Holy $hit....It's time I get me one of these...Or you can send me yours ;)
-
try them under some xtreem cooling :)

It seems to be in line with speculations I read on RWT and other forums. Basically every Opteron can work with un-reg DDR2 if mobo is allowing and your are connecting only 2 DIMMS per CPU! (regular A64 are using spare HT connections for greater Drive Strength which allows 4 unreg memories, Opterons need all HT connectors and that is why you can use only 2 unreg sticks /less Drive Strength/).
It is exactly same situation as it was with AMD760MP bridges. You could insert 2 un-reg DIMMS but if you needed 4 DIMMS the only available option was registered RAM :) .
The question now to be answered is:
- is this mobo allowing all Opterons or this particular ones which are ES samples?
There can be some bios limitation not to run with normal Opties, but it can work with ES samples. Just a thought!

the fx-7x series will not run in Tyan's S2915 mainboard, which is typically representative of a 2p workstation.

The most important thing to me here is to see S7 posting :) Welcome back sir! we missed you :)
To Andre and the results not bad...are you in a position to measure power draw for us Andre, compared to a normal AM2 setup?
Shame it needs 4 sticks of RAM
Thanks

Very Nice! Could you run som 3D benchmarks please?
-
Great work, you just opened Pandora's box I hop you know.
-
This might turn out to be sweet when we have AMD 690 and K8L on the market.

Dave can you tell us if this is due to Bios limitation or something else? As you know FX-7x are Rev F3 and maybe Tyan bios simply doesn't know about Rev F3??
Do you have Asus L1N64-WS mainboard and time to put there non ES Opterons?

i've got an L1N64 on order.
it's a bios lock problem. Tyan specifically stated that based on their obligations to AMD, they cannot unlock their bios' for FX parts.
they would also need to re-certify the memory interfaces for DDR2-800 and that's not something they want to do.

Thanks for clarification!! :toast:

a few requests.
run a 32M at the same speed, but do it as a single core run.
why?
quad core Kentsifields suffer a speed loss from the low bandwidth and 4 cores being active remove how effective the CPU really is.
I want to see how this set up holds up under the same conditions.
and, run a sisoft sandra Mips test.
-
AndreYang from Sandra MemTest scores I suspect that you're benching on Windows XP 32bit or other non-NUMA OS because memory bandwidth is low (as for quad channel @1142MHz DDR2).
Try to do same tests on XP-64 or Vista if possible, then this test should give around 15GB/s of memory bandwidth and better SuperPI times ;) !

Thx :toast: I really want this board to run this pair of gems....They've been sitting around for here for a few weeks while I was deciding on a mobo

I don't have any AM2 CPU.:(
2 Dimm for one CPU, so it can be worked single CPU, not only two CPU.:)

i guess i can get started with a 2212 and mob0 for $640 :D

Two question are any 65nm opterons. And also do you still need fbdimms with board using opterons.
Thanks

Opteron NEWER REQUIRED FBDIMMS! It requires Registered DIMMS, but from what AndreYang is showing, not on L1N64-WS mainboard for QuadFX:D !

pretty photos, and hardware but oc isn't sensation
