Q6600 Kentsfield + Asus 680i Striker Extreme

Seems Asus 680i Striker Extreme still has an FSB limit like all 680i boards when it comes to Kentsfield. Although it seems Asus 680i Striker Extreme does a bit better on FSB front than other 680i boards.

Asus PC Probe2 reported PSU rail voltages:

+3.3v rail = 3.26v vs 3.387v real
+5v rail = 4.78-4.89v vs 5.02v real
+12v rail = 11.78v vs 12.23v real

Seems 336-345FSB is where my Q6600 Kentsfield is for max FSB with 0402 bios.

Seems raising CPU VTT from 1.4v to 1.5v helped but only in conjunction with raising NB volts from 1.55v to 1.65v. 345FSB seems fine so far.

Seems although I set 848.1mhz real memory clock in bios = 424mhz, cpuz in windows reports 416mhz. So I ran with it as is and will redo 424mhz later.

Approximately 33 seconds difference between AUTO advance timings and tightened timings at same cpu and memory clocks!

Seems my 2GB OCZ PC8000 Titantium Alpha VX2 likes CAS4 better than CAS3. 3-3-3-4 1T can get me to around 428mhz at 2.45v but 4-3-3-4 and 4-4-3-4 1T can get me to around 444mhz at lower vdimm of 2.4v. 32M time for 416mhz 3-3-3-4 1T vs 444mhz 4-4-3-4 1T at same advance timings for 4-1-6-8-22 has 444mhz 4-4-3-4 1T only 0.859 seconds slower :)

i don't even want to bother with 1T on evga.......i tried 430>425>420>415>410.......3xx and just keep getting test#5 errors in memtest....i just gave up :rolleyes:

tried raising vdimm and NB ? for 400-440mhz 1T you need around 2.35-2.55v vdimm

Next up bumped FSB a bit so could hit the unlinked divider for 453mhz 4-4-4-4 1T at 2.45v :)

btw, when Q6600 on abit quadgt?

low clocks is all 680i boards have low max FSB limits.. striker limit is 345FSB so 9x345FSB max... if you had unlocked multi on QX6700 you could up multi to say 10x or 11x 345FSB, but Q6600 fixed at 9x :(

Q6600 on Abit AB9 QuadGT.. much later hehe.. but QuadGT soon :)

not true for me.
I can get my Quad to 8 x 450 without much trouble of my 680i.
but at that speed, stability is hard to maintain since its so damn hot.

theres a person right there doing 7 x 450 with a QX6700.

right now, my quad is in my P5B Deluxe.
my P5B is all set up for sub zero cooling and I really dont want to move that board, till either the Asus P5N32-E SLI can do above 550 FSB...
or till I get another 8800 GTX for SLI.
till then, I still use my P5B Deluxe since its already set up for my main PC.

when I tried my Quad in my Asus 680i. I tried it with bios 0302 and 0602.
in both cases it wasnt hard to get 450 with that CPU... it was hard to keep it stable cause of the heat output, and air cooling.

Eva, I wonder why you are getting such poor results... Have you tried these BIOS versions with yours?

Kunaak, when you get some time, it would probably help a lot of people if you could start a thread on your Quad experience with the Striker.

i never tried 8x450FSB with Q6600 so maybe it would of worked ? i worked solely on 9x multi

shamino has stated kentsfield is can run higher fsb at lower multi/cpu clocks the problem is at the higher end closer to 4ghz

Remember, my 345FSB i'm testing is straight boot into windows and quad prime stable... i didn't test suicide runs or 1M max. But it could be difference between Q6600 and QX6700 ? or different bioses ? i only tested with 0402 bios

Can I put in a vote for more Q6600 testing and OC'ing? When this chip hits the $500 price range in a couple of months it might be a super hot buy if it can be overclocked to the 3.4 GHz + range!

haha... if you have a clockgen for me to use, tell me.
I'd like to be able to get a working clockgen for the 680i.
so just like anyone else, I had to work with bios only.

ew with water and you're getting those temps + that speed?

weird clockgen works for me on striker with e6600 but doesn't help with max fsb limit i have with q6600

Hi Eva,

i am using the P5N32 right now and one strange thing i observe using the unlink is ... when i want to run 800-1000mhz 5-5-5-15 for my ram (D9 micon), i keep bumping errors failing prime blend within min but when i set to 500+ mhz *actual 2XXmhz*, i can pass blend / large FTT

vdimm is 2.4v
NB = 1.4-1.5v (no matter how high i set, i still fail)

With your experience, do u know what wrong? :)

I stuck at 340Mhz with the DFI RD600.
Up to 450Mhz with the Asus Commando (965P).
Tonight (or tomorrow) I'll try it with an Asus P5N32-E SLI.
On monday I'll try also with a D975XBK2.
