P5WDH High FSB Resolved (Working) !!!

I am not a noob but I can't figure this one out. My objective is to Boot at 450FSB using 8X on an E6600...

- I have tried 2 different Memory types > Corsair & Super Talent PC2-6400
- I have tried various timings including 5-5-5-15 & volts upto 2.35

Specs in my sig are 100% stable with either Ram.
It seems as if 430 FSB is my max bootable with either Ram? Whether using 9X or 8X
I have tried upping Mch & ICH along with term voltage.
I have never upped the vcore though, if I can run stable at 400X9 , the I would think 450 X8 at same vcore should be possible right? Can anyone help me achieve a 450 X 8 OC ? I know for a fact I can run stable at 434 X 9 with a higher Vcore. Is my problem with Bios 1503? I greatly appreciate any assistance or suggestions. There is no way I have 2 sets of Ram maxing out at approx 430 FSB...

You should increase vcore when you are aiming at 450 x 8, because the board it first boot at 450 x 9, and then it switch the multi.
Also MCH vcore should be at 1.75, more if you have good northbridge cooling.
You should fell happy, my max fsb is 410 with the early revision of this board, but its far from be stable at that speed.

Are you quite certain the Mobo 1st boots with the 9X Multi ? Then this is frustrating because I would not need such a high vcore when running 450 X 8...I don't suppose the mobo would survive changing the multi via software while it's in windows huh ?

How do you set cpu multiplier 8X ??, I don't see any option you can change the CPU multiplier in the bios. using bios version 1602

Currently I'm setting 9X FSB 400, I want 8X Fsb 450 also.

Good luck on getting over 430 FSB with this board. I can't remember seeing many people get over that number.

You are right, i have been able to boot at 450*8 with my e6400, but it's not stable, and really hard to recreate.

425 is around the number im getting at fully stable.

The problem is that P5B Changes Strap to 1333 and looses timings on the MCH, that is why people are seeing 500 FSB more easily.

P5W stays at 1066 strap.

According to what i have read if you change your Multi from 9 to 8 you are in fact OC your MCH. so you wont get any better performance out of that.

I've had mine upto 434 X 9 (3906), but I thought my Corsair Ram was pooping out so I bought some Super Talent...Same issues with the 8X multi...
What if I were to max out mch & ich ? Think that would help?

I was in the same boat as you, i changed my perfectly fine 6400 for a 6600, i got around 300 mhz more for $300. so you can imagine im pissed.

My next step was getting Crucial memory sticks but seeing you have tried that with corsair and talent, im going to buy another board, probably the P5N32-E with the 680i chipset.

monza1412 was correct...I upped my Vcore to 1.45V and was able to boot 450 X 8 Stable....:banana: MCH & ICH at max...Term = 1.05V I ran SP32M successfully. I even benched 3D03, SiSandra, etc. All ran perfectly.

I wasn't satisified so I then upped the Vcore to 1.5V and tried 500FSB...To my surprise, it booted !!! Not stable, but hey...

Super Talent ran error free at 450 X8 with 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1 Volts. I am now enjoying 4GB of ram in my mobo as I type this...

DAK, I have the EXACT same setup as you minus the videocard. Same board, cpu, cooler, and ram. Right now I am at 1.288 voltage at 333fsb with stock memory timings and mch ich at auto. Have some ?'s for ya if you could help me. To reach 400fsb what were your settings? Why did you desire 450x8 fsb over 400x9? Does it perform higher and how do I change the multiplier? Also your temperatures are really good compared to mine. At 1.288voltage at 3.0ghz I am running at around 36º (core 0) and 39º (core 1) when just using my computer for little things and up to 50º and load. Did you do anything special to only have 39ºC at idle with over 500fsb such as lapping or using an aftermarket fan? Also what was your load temperature at 400fsb. If you could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

yeah, it works. I can do the same, however i have run 1.75v to cpu rather than 1.525 for same mhz @ lower FSB (7x500 or 389x9). Perfomance increase was there, but minimal, and definately not worth the extra heat for me. 1.85v MCH board tho..

Yes that did help thanks. 2 more things, what fan did you replace it with? Also why did you change your timings and voltage when u went up to 400fsb? The ram is rated at 400 with 4-4-3-8 timings.

I have 2 sets of RAM mixed (Corsair & SuperTalent)...They require different timings so I config'd for the worst (naturally). I have not tried to tighten them, timings don't really matter nearly as much as Mhz...I don't understand your voltage question...Supertalent is spec'd at 2.2V ( I think that's what your asking).The ram is rated at 400 with 4-4-3-8 timings.

Lastly, when I am running Dual WCG, VM's and 1 GPU running F@H , I have seen my temp as high as 50C, but normally it's apround 47-48C fully loaded. Yes, I did lap the stuff...

Oh ok. Ya I didn't know you were running different rams. I thought you just had 2gigs of super talent like me and you changed the timings and voltage on the ram when it was already rated at 400mhz standard. I just tried booting to windows with 400fsb and it didnt work. When it comes to my settings the only thing I have changed is fsb and vcore to 1.35 to try and boot at 1.35. Everything else is on auto or whatever it was when I received it. I will probably keep the 9 mulitplier, but even if I wanted 8, I looked all in bios and didn't see that option you stated for making it 8. My bios version is 1305. Does it need upgraded or is that an ok version?

get 1503 at minimum...I will prolly flash to 1602 this weekend. 1305 sux big time...Also, a 9X Multi will generally yield you the best performance...so keep it. I highly recommend flashing your BIOS...

I'm downloading 1602 as I type. Maybe this will affect my OC'ing, idk? Or maybe you just have a better e6600.
Edit: just finished downloading. It says it is a ROM file. I thought it would be like a regular setup and install. Do I burn it to a cd and then install? Sorry for hijacking your thread lol. Just saw your specs and was having problems myself.

Use Asus Update to flash the BIOS from windows. The program is in your MoBo drivers CD. Very very simple.

I would like to see the max stable FSB with SuperPi 32M on your board.
Since you've booted ( unstable though ) at 500MHz FSB, I'd start with 470MHz FSB for max SuperPi 32M stable FSB.

How you achieve this temp?!

Mine only succeed to boot in 400x9 with minimum 1.56VCORE and 1.65MCH. QFAN is disable and my CNPS9500 is running at 2500RPM. Also, I've applied AS5 on NB and SB and put a 40mm fan over NB. But no mather! My temps goes really high:

IDLE: 58C
FULL: +75C!

The system pass SuperPI and run TAT for a single core as long as I want. But restart imediatly if I run TAT for the two cores. Also, Orthos did not succeed too. :/

I can boot mine at 434x9, but it won't get into Windows. Can't remember the voltage settings for this though.

I'm currently having stability issues at 3.6Ghz, so 400x9, so working on this.

Haven't tried using 8 as a multiplier

I used to do 465x8 but it was unstable. And this is from BIOS. I used to have it 450x8 for 24/7 use (see sig) then it stopped working. Now it won't do pass 408FSB. I don't know what happened. I even have the NB watercooled. Oh well.

That's really strange indeed...perhaps a fresh os install?
