I made a simple plate to adapt an mcw60 to my 8800 GTX
It also holds a fan to cool my heatsinks.
So far, with stock voltages, in 3dm06, logging shows 53c max temp. So it isn't that bad.
Picture attached, but kind of dark, sorry...;)
I may start making some of these brackets, if there is some interest, until swiftech come out with something
you have a nice idea there, hope those mc14s don't fall off, their thermal pad adhesive kinda sucks.
btw what is that chip beside those mem chips? bridge chip?
would think that if u switched out the mcw60 bottom with apogee bottom wich hasnt that step in it, would yield some lower temp....

I decided to use the oem fan and shroud, in that in an sli app, the 80mm fan hanging down would hit the case, and/or not allow any pci cards.

Hre is the bottom after I milled and lapped it.
One little mark remains, but I didn't want to take too much off, in that the bolt ends are almost coming thru. It remains structurally intact.

BTW, now the cut down aluminum fan base coves the small chips and 4 of the mem chips. I used some thermal tape off my oem 7950 gx2 fan assembly.
I touched everyhing while running 3dmark06 and those litle chips as well as the mosfets in front of them (I think they are mosfets) get pretty toasty.
I will vmod this board and let you all know what happens.

well that's the point, not everybody has the tool to milled the plate; therefore, I was hoping swiftech would do a revision of the whole mcw60 with a plate like the apogee. You should be able to overclock the core more like +700, I was doing 650 for air cooled alone, so I know it's gotta be more than that with water. But 50-52C at full load is not bad. What is idle temps like?
Why not try an actual Apogee w/90* barbs on your VGA?
How hot does the RAMDAC get with only that ramsink on it? With the adjacent holes, one should be able to fit a Zalman ZM-NB47J northbridge sink, and accomodate some airflow for proper cooling.

Huh, that wasnt very good at all. For me it looks like the mcw60 is bigger than the ihs. but the step aint. of course thats why remowing it or switching to a flat one would help. but is it still smaller than the ihs? Is the ihs really bigger than a cpu?Quote:

I still have to do quite a bit of testing, but I can say this much so far...
All I have to compare is my 7950 gx2 w/ dd wb kit.
The temp difference on that setup, was a lot more.
This setup only sees 2 to 5 degress difference between idle and full load (so far).
another nice thing is that this wb fits and covers the gpu very well.
On the downside, the gpu top doesn't seem all that flat.
If the socket layout and holes is the same on the 8800 gts, it would be worth while to produce a batch of adaptor plates, in that they are not hard to make.
The ramdac hasn't gotten hot at all so far. Maybe it cooks in sli, I don't know yet...
