Do you have some sort of special camera attachment to do this, or do you just put the lens of the camera up to the lens of the microscope?

Exactly. Camera lens to the microscope lens. So the camera
capture same view as can be seen by eye. And my camera is a
Canon Digital Ixus V.

A Russian made microscope from 1970-80, don't know exactly.
But it's from those times Russians did quality goods. A real nice one,
intended for geological examines or something like that.
It has changeable lenses. Usually I use 14x to take pictures,
because it give a sort of wide-angle view, so I can take pictures in
1600x1200 resolution with only small black areas in the corners.
Afterwards those corners need to be cut out,
therefore the pictures are not in any standard resolution.

I keep putting off building a camera adapter, but I have a Bausch & Lombe stereo microscope I picked up at a doctor's estate sale for USD 20. Great when painting bridges to check the work.

You are right about he Russian optics too Nyge.
Some of the surplus telescopes I've seen are
of very high quality. We get a lot of junk over here
in the US too though.:rolleyes:

Here is an idea of mine. Would it be possible for you to catch
similar images of the heatsink surface?
It would be really great if you could catch some images of different
types of surfaces too. (new & unfinished vs. lapped and polished)
If you could do that it would be awsome!:cool:
They might help us to see the interaction between the two
mating surfaces. And where the TIM goes when they are joined.

Hmm, I don't really use heatsinks, just waterblocks. :)
But maybe I could sometime in the future do some sort of compare, if I got an opportunity to.
