Gigabyte DS3 FSB Wall between 420-430

I have a Gig DS3 rev 2 board that seems to run out of FSB at 430 no matter what ram I have put in, or BIOS version.

• I am currently using Crucial Micron D9GMH Anv. Ed. from New Egg.
• I have tried F4 F5 F7 F8A BIOS and no luck.
• I have tried all the volt and mem timing tweaks, too. I can he 7x428, bu no higher.
• I have even tried 6x, but nothing.
• I can also run the system mem with 2.5x mem @1000+ @4,4,4,10, but FSB will not budge past 430.
• I am aware of the D9GKX problem that Anandtech mentioned at 460 up, but others with Micron D9GMH seem to have no trouble. Am I missing something??
• I have a tons of fans and low case temp. I have also tried pulling battery, etc.

Is this a bad board? My RMA window is closing very soon!!

I thought the D9 problem was with D9GKX @ 460 +and not D9GMH at 430 . Others seem to hit 1000+ with D9GMH.

try lowering ur ram voltage to like 2.0 or maybe even 2.1.... i had to lower my vdimm to increase oc, sounds weird.... true story tho.

Tried full range of voltages and didn't help.

Since I can hit over 1000 with memory, wouldn't it be a FSB issue and not a memory issue?

Is this a common problem for DS3?

how do you find out?

Im not sure, other than pulling off the heatsinks. You can kill memory pretty quick doing that, from what I understand.

Is there an app like CPUZ that tells you?

whats cpu u got ? my E6400 had 425fsb wall so on DS3 or 975XBX it simply cant get over that

the C2 baords STILL have the stupid micron D9 issues.

some GMH ram goes higher but in general its all D9. i have only seen a very very small handful of people be able to do 1000 or even 975.

they have the fix but the bios isnt ready yet so sit till next week, it should be available then.

and dont crank the voltage on the ram for some reason the DS3 can run the D9 stuff pretty high at even 2.1v 2.2 2.3 2.4v doesnt seem to make much difference.

but if the FSB is the issue then boot as high as you can via the bios. set the ram 1:1 not some other divider. using a divider on this motherboard is a bad thing. it doesnt play very nice if you do. keep the ram 1:1

leave the mch and fsb voltages on auto see what happens.
be sure your locking the pci-e at 100 or you can try 105 or 110 without hurting anything.

i have also had varying luck leaving the pci-e on auto.. dont know why but sometimes it works better on auto.

anyways set the bios as high as you can boot,, then go into windows and use SetFSB965 you can get it here or just google it.
or if you really want to you can use Easytune although i think its a real pile of poop. it does work for some people. raise the FSB from there and see how high you can go

I have a e6300 1.86. It should be a good cpu I can hit 425x7 @ 1.18 volts and even do 3-3-3-8 @425 with the ram at 2.4volts.

Seems if I could get a higher FSB it should do well.:confused:

According to Anandtech Gigabyte has identified the D9 memory issue (lol, that we have been :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:ing about all along) with the 1 GB modules. http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2862&p=2

Hopefully (like they say) Gigabyte will fix with a BIOS update.

P.S. Looks like the DS3 has been getting a lot of attention at Anandtech recently.

I have never had luck with any Windows tuners including easytune and setfsb for some reason. Just locks up when you get to 430.

It simply will not go past 428. I can hit 430, but it crashes at post.:brick:

my d9gmh as trouble above 440 or so. tried some eldepia stuff, got up to 500 mostly stable. fsbs above 440 or so are unstable as well. my chip is pretty good too. 3.4 at 1.36v.

It seems that people are having better luck at the 400+ on the Asus boards. such as this one:

i got this appearently according to that site:

Got the same problem with P5B Deluxe.
No matter what - just does not go over 427MHz :(
even with NB@-14C

emm, same problem :( but if i put only one ram not two, i got >450FSB :P

Are you sure that A-Data RAMs can hit 900+MHz ?
When I had similar sticks the best I could squeeze was just over 950MHz.

Your ram is 5.0-4-4-9 Micron D9DQT (BT-3). You should be able to hit higher, although I am not sure what those top out at.

Are other boards having the 420-430 barrier with D9?

Is it possible that this is an P965 chipset issue?

Well I finally got a P5B deluxe and I am still hitting a wall at 425-430 FSB. WTF?

Why cant I hit higher FSB?

I can run my memory @1000+, but the FSB will not budge past 420s.

Is there such a thing as CPU limit for FSB?
