ever want 8 gigs of ram, for that crazy PC you been dreaming up?

well, seems Mushkin just got a nice new set of ram out, if you can possibly find a way to use all that ram. :D
video editing, super servers, insane gamer with deep pockets... who knows...

but if you can find a use for this much ram, well theres atleast a decent option available.
check out the new EM2-4200.

Insanely low clock... so this is no surprise really. Bring on 2GB sticks at PC2-6400 at least =/

Hell it next to impossible to find DDR2 sticks with 2GB of memory faster than that. :fact: And ALL of it is ECC and costs ATLEAST $300 a Stick :fact:

Looks like all is going according to plan.

I agree it'd sure be nice to see at least PC2-6400 before any games start needing more than 2gb to not choke. Hopefully Samsung/Micron put out some dram out in the foreseeable future on a smaller transistor process (arn't they both already using 40-50nm for flash?) and we'll see lower prices and higher densities and/or speeds going forward into the 64-bit future.

TwinMOS has 2 GB PC2-4200 sticks, and markings suggest its using 3.7ns chips. So there is a chance it will overclock to PC2-5300 with some overvolting. That speed would be sufficient for C2D systems!

I understand that. But I mean, if you don't need 8GB (and who here does) it would be smarter to get 4 * 1GB and run them at PC2-8000 speeds.

There was a time you didn't need 2GB, and could run 4x512MB instead of 2x1GB at faster speeds. The same for 1GB and 256MB sticks instead of using 512mb sticks. Sure, in the old days on AMD you'd be screwed from 1T to 2T, but that's besides the point.

As densities increase and there is more ram per stick, the faster the standard changes. As we usher in 2GB sticks, the standard will change from 1GB standard, 2GB enthusiast, 4GB for the hardcore to 2GB standard, 4GB enthusiast and 8GB for the cutting-edge dude that runs a 64-bit OS.

I think this is what I'm going to do (I was eyeing some of these new 2GB models).

I'll just live with 4GB till the 2x2GB models mature.

Is overclocking 4x1GB more challenging than 2x1GB on a C2D platform (IIRC it was more challenging back in the AMD 939 DDR days).

I've already got my P5WDG2 WS Pro and an X6800 (and an E6300, E6400, E6700 to compare with) and 2 different 2x1GB kits.

Any suggestions on the 4x1GB kit? I've got the 2x1GB G.Skill HZ kit and the 2x1GB TeamXtreem 3-4-4-8 667C3 kit already.

I've gotta find time to play with these things!

Sorry if I'm sliding a tad bit OT with this.

That's chips for ECC modules, so I doubt they will be used in kits we would buy anytime soon. Those would likely cost an arm and a leg...

True...I missed that part.

Don't ECC modules usually scale slower than non-ecc modules though? If there is pc2-6200 RDIMMs, then non-registered can't be far behind. :)
