AMD shows off quad core roadmap,says 65 nm chips due next month

After reading a title I was surprised in a good way! but then I saw the link.. INQ.. :stick:

Well,never mind theInq,because that was official AMD info(from director of Dresden production fabs).If he says October,than October it is(for large 65nm shipments)

It would be really great but the thing is that the inq not reliable source anymore. I want to read that "official" info on the other web.

65nm processor could have been out months ago but AMD once again is being slow and methodical with their process moves

Intel does the same thing. The difference is that Intel has much more engineers and fabrication power so it takes much less time to optimise a process.
I really hope AMD can take back the performance lead, but if Intel focusses on making the fastest processor instead of the best selling I'm affraid AMD doesn't stand a chance in the future.

Unless things have changed drastically in the last month, AMD plans to offer 65nm cpus within the same thermal envelopes as their 90nm cpus at clock speeds of up to 2.4GHz by the end of 2006.

This sounds good, I hope these come out that soon and force intel prices down :D. Also can anyone specualte wether these will have an even worse coldbug?, I've heard bad things in that department about AMD 65nm :(...

but looks like ill hold off moving to AM2 so I can try out a 65nm chip.

for sure they will do that.... that's where the money is, they have enough controll over the 90nm process that they all can make EE chips or 5200/FX 1mb serie.
by the end of the year when fab36 is ramping you will see the 65Watt power envelope as standard cpu.
think twice what the cost will be of a dualcore chip 2x512 cache on 65nm, its half the size of a conroe. What type of pricewar is intel going to start? amd can make chips now at the price of a sempron. Intel needs 45nm to stay on top with their big cache.

the one guy who gave us early looks at amd products is no longer here at XS.

According to AMD, they won't be substantially converted to 65nm production until mid-2007. I think you're exagerating when you say that a 2x512 cache 65nm X2 will be half the size of Conroe/Allendale. You also neglected to consider that AMD's sSOI process is more expensive than Intel's sS process and that Intel's higher volume manufacturing has other cost saving advantages. There are numerous other factors to consider, not the least of which being that in order to truly compete with C2D, AMD needs to quickly ramp their dual-core clock speeds to 3.5GHz at <80W TDP or introduce the K8L architecture way ahead of schedule.
If we consider overclocking, 65nm K8s better reach 4GHz+ with air-cooling if they hope to take on C2D.
