Finally built one

I finally got all my parts and started assembling them this weekend. This is my first 'real' unit, I built one before, but that was more like an experimental thing, i used almost only used parts (used captube, used pipes, even used filter :p:) and it had 1/4" pipe for suction.. The evap was bad too.

But here it is :)

-Used Mitsubishu R22 rotary that came with a 25MF run cap, i really got no idea on how powerfull it is, but it weighs 16kg, and is about 24cm high

-1/4" discharge with some coils as a vibration silencer.

-Used condenser. Don't know the Kw rating, but it's about 19x25cm and three rows.

-3.2m .031" captube. I might want to shorten it later.

-Cap-in-cap evap with 3mm base.

-60cm 1/2" braided stainless steel hose for suction. Then 1/2" copper tubing. I guess 3/8" would work as good, reason i use 1/2" copper and not 3/8" is because BES sent me wrong size (LOL), and of course i don't ship it back to the UK :rolleyes:.

The unit is charged with R290 at the moment, but i will probably regas it to either a R290+R410A mix, or R404A. Depends on what i can get.

Temps later, i haven't tested it on a load yet, but i've got idle temps at around -60°C. Don't think the idle temp will be that low when it's tuned for load though.

Nice :) Much better than my first - I just stuck an evap on refrigeration condenser - 1/2 hours work ;)


Your flex pipe there - it has flare connectors - is it steel with the steel braid over it? What is it's construction?

I think you should cut some cap tube :)

Try with ~2,8m, should be much better than 3,2m with nice load :)

But...I really like your SS, it`s very nice and clean, especially for first build I think that you have done awesome work.

great job, especially coz its your first unit. clean built. i cannot see the brazing joints on the pics, but all in all nice build.

0bar suction pressure would be about -46°C with propane.

try charging it up to -0.1 to +0.3 should handle a quite nice load.
as said before, shorten the captube.

Thanks everybody :) The Flex tube has got 1/2" BSP connectors, so i use 1/2" BSP to 3/8" flare "thing" in one end (the female one) and in the other end (male) i use 1/2" BSP -> 1/4" BSP, then 1/4" BSP to 3/8" flare. Kinda complicated :p: But the hose is very cheap at bes.ltd.uk and it takes max 70 bar. It's just a normal braided ss hose.

Edit: I think I'm going to cut the captube a little, but I'm going to try the unit on my 6800LE first and try to hunt down that WR I've tried to beat several times before, heheh yep, I'll fix some pics of brazing tomorrow. It's too dark outside now.

what thickness have insulation on flex line ?
in future you will charge this system with a better gas?

btw plexi isn't good for holddown, it's too flexible ;)

Really? I thought it would work fine, it's 6mm thick plexi and isn't really...flexible. But i might cange to something else. What do you recommend? PVC?

I don't know exactly what thickness, but i think first some 3mm insulation tape, then 13mm armaflex and a layer tape on the outside of that.

Yep, i think i'll recharge it with another gas.

PCV 10-15mm is very good material
sometime I saw cracked a plexi holddown (thickness 10 or 15mm)

what type of brazing rods did you use?

I used "Phosbond O brazing rods" (part nr 15994) from http://www.bes.ltd.uk/
You can also find them under Ref and aircon -> Manifolds and Accessories (at the bottom of the page).

What HP do you get with 3m20 capilary tube? :eek:

Where'd you find that condenser, I really need to get some like that :(
