Yo guys I need some help here if posiible, I am a AMD guy myself so my knowledge of P4 systems isnt that great. Im looking for specs fot the Ultimate P4 system, money is not a issue here.
I need the following:
CPU, Mthbrd, Memory, HrdDrive, Sound Card, Speakers, Keybrd, Mouse.

I am not up on the latest intel. But lets get you back up on top so we can try to get some help in here. just hang in there the P4 guys will be along.;)
I'am no P4 guy by any means. But the store i work in only sells P4's so i know a bit about them.
Cpu- 3.06Ghz HT
Mobo - Asus P4G8X (Dual ddr) or Asus P4T533 (rdram)
Mem - XMS Pc-3500 DDR, Pc-1066 (sorry don't know to many brands)
HDD - Seagate 80Gb SATA, or WD 200GB drive-zilla ATA 133
Sound - SB Audigy2
Speakers - Logitech Z-640?
Kyb-Mouse - Microsoft, Logitech MX-700
The best things I could think of off the top of my head, If your looking to do something special,besides o/c. Let us know, things will change.
By the end of the month, you should be able to get:
-875 Canterwood Motherboard (the Abit looks nice)
-P4 3.2GHz 800Mhz FSB Processor
-Two 512MB sticks of Twinmos PC3200 (for dual channel)
-DiamondMax 9 Series SATA Drive (whatever size...they're the fastest)
-Radeon 9800 Pro All-In-Wonder
-Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum
-Klipsch Promedia 5.1
-Any Microsoft Keyboard you like, and I like either the Logitech MX700 or Microsoft Explorer 3.0 mouse (keyboard and mouse are really personal preferences).
Those are the best, money not being an object.
switch out that hd for the new WD raptor drives or you can go scsi, which is what i would do if if i were you. Also get a prometia and wait to see some results of those new 800FSB p4 steppings, shoot for the 1ghz bus 250ddr will not be easy espically if you have the high multi on that 3.2ghz chip. But as you see in the main overclocking forum someone found a stick of bh-5 that does 260. That with dual ddr and the new p4's would rock.
My recommendations were for stock, as he didn't indicate if he would be overclocking. If he wants to overclock, that's a whole 'nother can of worms.
As far as the WD Raptors, if you can put up with that loud-ass whine and the low capacity, go for it. Otherwise, hit up the Maxtors.
hey Zroc. some actual end users have received the raptors, and they say it is barely noticeable. of course this is very subjective, but most seem to agree that it is not loud or whiny at all (of course it could have been selective hearing)Quote:

Hmm...that'd be nice. Every review complained about the noise, though. I certainly HOPE they're quiet!
if they are loud then you'll just have to get a couple of tornado's to drown them out :D
Why settle for ATA or even S-ATA, go SCSI :D.
Pick up some Seagate 15K RPM Cheetah's and put them in RAID :).

Why? Because of the PCI bus. You could put four IDE/SATA drives RAID 0 on a PCI 4-channel IDE/SATA card, or four Seagate 15.3 drives RAID 0 on a SCSI RAID card, hell, even one of those solid-state RAM cards, and they will never transfer more than roughly 109MB/sec (max PCI is 133MB/sec, and overhead usual limits it to 109MB/sec or less).
ICH5R is two 150MB/sec SATA channels. Yep, two separate...300MB/sec max (actually 'limited' to 266MB/sec because of it's own bus).

Yep, with two lowly Seagate SATA drives (the Maxtor Plus 9 and WD Raptor drives are even faster), 154MB/sec, 170MB if counting overhead. 50% more raw data throughput (or MORE, if you use faster drives), and you don't use ANY PCI bus.
So going SATA ICH5 RAID 0 is much cheaper, bigger capacity, and 50%+ faster file transfer, without using the PCI bus at all.

Intel pulled a REALLY slick move there with ICH5R...you simply can't beat it on an 875P.
Needless to say I am EXTREMELY impressed with those raid numbers, so...2 WD Raptors in RAID0 sounds like it would just destroy my 2 WD 8mb on my HP RR404 card...hrm indeed!

To me, this ICH5R RAID benefit is a MAJOR plus to Canterwood, that many people overlook.
