FX-55 vs X6800.
Can the Fx-55 perform as good as the X6800 on games that don't take advantage of dual-core CPUs at stock settings? Someone brought it up in a forum, and I was wondering if that's true. It's not a trick question and if it seems like a joke, it's not.
Thanks.

x6800 sends fx55 to trash. I hightly doubt that any AMD single core clocked to ~4ghz can show better performance than stock e6600. Its Conroe showtime, AMD is just way too slow to even bother with it.

I was thinking the same as well, but wasn't quite sure since most games still don't take advantage of multi-core processors.

you are correct. Technically, with a X6800. And in any game in 1600x1200 with all eye candy turned on. Your FX-55 will only get a few FPS less than the X6800. If you do any Encoding or anything the X6800 will be faster.
Good luck

As u see here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ighlight=gorod
Dual core show better results even in games that are not optimized for dual cores. One core processing game tasks, second mess with windows background tasks, firewall, antivirus, etc. And dont compare conroe with obsolete AMD single core, conroe are way faster.

obsolete? well fyi fx-55 was sandiego 90nm too buddy ;) but you knew that ...
