Forcing 1333 Strap through BSEL pins?

I've done some research on the 5100-series Xeons (1333 FSB) and have worked out the BSEL settings on the LGA775 package and have a solution for getting 1333 on 1066 Core2 Duo processors.

This will void applicable warranties and I/nintek take no responsibility for CPU/mainboard deaths arrising from this mod.

BSEL pin configurations for LGA775 Core2 CPU's. This is for the XEONS but the 266MHz and 200MHz (not listed) are on the whitepapers for the Pentium D and Core 2 and are exactly the same so it should apply to all s775 with VRM 1.1.

Here is a section of the pin diagram, note the grey blocks which indicate the missing pins for the notch in the side of the package.

Here is a more diagramatical representation of the LGA package with the offending pad highlighted in red.

Please note the orientation triangle in the corner, this is the lga pin layout and is mirrored if you're staring at the bottom of your cpu (the pad is on the far right so it lines up with the pin on the far left).

Now on to the mod (I will attempt this tomorrow personally so if none of you want to bite the bullet just wait for me). Using a hard enamel (nailpolish, pink works best) cover entirely and evenly the highlighted pad on the CPU package Be careful not to cover any other pads.

A thin layer will be sufficient, we don't want to damage the pin in the LGA socket now do we!?
Essentially what we're doing is increasing the resistance to that BSEL register on the CPU itself, and hence setting a H or 1 value for the register.

This mod is similar to the Xeon mod for s604 & s603 CPU's.

Still no confirmation, the nailpolish hadn't cured properly so the pin pushed through it.

I have confirmed it does *NOT* work... theory is sound, tis a shame. This one probably requires BIOS support. So it should work on Bad Axe versions that support 1333 strap, but not on DFI Infinity 975X.

Doesnt the 1333 strap bog down performance though? This is what i thought i kept hearing on the badaxe threads.

I believe it does lower performance somewhat at the same frequency.

However, it may be why the DFI and some other boards hit such a frequency wall, the BIOS engineers may have set the internal chipset timings particularly tight and the 1333 strap loosens these.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way this mod *should* allow higher FSB's on some boards :) It's at least an option to try if you have run out of options to overcome the FSB wall.

complete waste of time

just go and get a DS3 and some of the other boards capable of 500MHz FSB and you're done...............and it will kick the :banana::banana::banana::banana: out of 1333 strap by a country mile.....you'll reach the chip limit with E6400 and decent 965 motherboard anyway

no.

975X chipset = Crossfire (and SLI with modded drivers)
P965 chipset = !Crossfire, but SLI possible with modded drivers at diminished performance (second slot electrically 4 lanes).

I don't see what your beef is with this mod, it's allowing users who ALREADY have 975X boards to explore their options. I'm not saying go out buy 975X it's better than P965 for overclocking.

yeah fair enough

personally i don't see much value in Xfire or SLI so single CPU/Single card does the trick for me but i do get your point...........people with those POS Infinity might be finally able to get half decent OCs heheh

Confirmed same as "Nephilim" that it does not work on ES6600 on Infinity 975X/G. I actually 'moved' the pin where it could not touch instead of depending on insulation and the board would 'not' boot with video.

maybe you did the mod wrong?

when you mod Pentium D's to go from 200 FSB to stock 266 FSB, you connect that same pad, to the pad directly above it, with a single line of conductive ink.

I can confirm that it works that way.
maybe this version of the mod is incomplete, as you may need to connect it to a nearby pad?

OT but what ones should be connected for 533>800 fsb cpus :) thanks
