fan control for ds3

Hi guys.

i really need a fan control for my rig. so the problem is not, that it's to loud, but it gets to hot before the fan really starts working.

i got dual spi32m running, that makes it warm up to like 60°C :eek: then the fan starts working. (2000 of maximum 2500rpm)

but when i give the fan full power all the time in bios, i never go higher then 50°C. so this is really a big difference, but full power all the time is loud.

so i need something that makes the fan start full power earlier, maybe like 50 or 55°C.

smart fan from easy tune 5 is greyed out(don't know why) so i cannot use it.

somebody maybe know a tool that let's me decide fan-rpm for a specific temperature ?

plz no hardware.

thanks for your help. It's really annoying, i can't start OC before this problem is gone.

Try Speedfan from almacio ^sp? I love the program, not sure if it works with that board but I know it works for the dq6

it does not seem to work.

it reports me up to 6500 rpm :eek:

but the boxed hfs cann never do so. also i can set whatever i want, i don't seems to change anything.

for testing i activated intel QST instead of auto in bios at "fan speed control method", but this thing is weird. it gives me temps of like 80-90°C at cpu (!) but only runs fan at 800rpm and wants an additionel pci-card driver in windows. WTF ?

also : no smart fan in easytune. From what i've seen in pictures this would be exactly what i'm searching for, plus : gigabyte site shows the symbol of smart fan on the infomartion-site for ds3. I'm really angry, i cannot use it.

this is really annoying. even undervolting don't makes it colder, just the fan gets slower :rolleyes:

Well neverminding that the RPM monitor is way off (can be altered, more on that later) What actually happens when you alter the fan speeds in Speedfan, do the fans slow down and eventually stop? If not well email the speedfan programmer and he will add support if poss, if it does then we can alster the rpm readout NP.

@realsmasher isn't it a little too hot? what cooler do u have? on stock yes? :|

on my DS3 SpeedFan neither works, it shows 23000 rpm on CPU and 6000 on PSU which is not true ;) (900 and 800rpm in real), anyway i'm using bios fan control. if not, maybe mbm could help?

Still curious as to weather or not the fan control portion works (has 0 to do with the RPM monitoring) Also does the DQ3 have any bios option to disable the fan control (if any) within the bios?

Previous boards from DFI and ABIT had wondeful utilities for adjusting fan speeds. I'll def be contacting Gigabyte to find out what's up with the smartfan option in easytune. I've got the CPU and GPU fans plugged into the headers and will be needing to quiet them soon.

hardware is the last step for me. ds3 should just have smart-fan eneabled and all would be good.

it has 4 options :
- temperature control : as described, makes it hot
- intel qst : even slower fan and reports wrong temperatures
- disabled : full speed all the time
- auto -> temperature control

of course its too hotz, but it wouldn't be too hot if the fan control would be intelligent. why have a fan that can do 2,5k rpm when the fan control bringts that speed only when the the cpu is ALLREADY too hot ? that's just stupid.

try to disable Fan Speed mode at BIOS, then the speed is depend your system tempt, with stock cooling @ DQ6 Idle=2500RPM, Full load=3000RPM

I'm using Speedfan to dynamically control my DS3 fan speeds automatically. It works great. Fan speed ramps up when mobo temp hits 42 or CPU temp hits 50, and slows down when things cool down.

To allow Speedfan to control your speeds, you have to disable fan control in the BIOS. Then, in Speedfan, click Configure and go to the Advanced tab. Select the IT8712F chip, and in the list set "PWM 1 mode" and "PWM 2 mode" to "Software controlled." Click the "remember it" check box in each case to make it permanent. This will let you adjust the fan speeds from the main page.

got it working now, but is this right : speedfan has only ONE temperature ?

i told him that i want 45° and so he starts fullspeed at 48°C and slows down again at 42°C

anything between this dosn't exist.

my fan states are :
60,70,80,90,100 but he uses 70,80 and 90 only for acceleration and breaking down between 2100rpm and 1000rpm.

that's the next point : this fan can do 2500rpm but the maximum speedfan uses is 2100 at 100%.

anyone got an idee about this ?

i was think about
600rpm @ 40°C
1000 @ 45
1500 @ 50
max @ 55

is that realisable with speedfan ? if yes, somebody please tell me how.

I've noticed that speedfan seems to run my fans at either the minimum speed or the maximum speed. It only passes through speeds inbetween while heading to one or the other. That's my observation at least.

You can work around this a bit by setting your max fan speed to 80% or whatever isn't ridiculously loud, and then setting your warning temp to the temp you want your fan speeds at 100%. When speedfan hits the warning, it maxes the fan speed. At least that'll give you 3 tiers of fan speed.

Also, as soon as you start reducing the fan speed in speedfan, the reported fan RPMs get all out of whack. Apparently most fans don't report accurate RPMs under PWM voltage modulation. Don't worry about this. Speedfan controls your fans through PWM and completely ignores the reported RPMs.

This is very helpful, thanks! I had read that Speedfan did not work with the DS3 which would have definitely turned me off this motherboard.

So how many fans on this board are detected and regulated by Speedfan -- just CPU fan or every fan connected to the mboard? Since you say cpu temp and ambient temp sensors work, if every fan can be controlled by Speedfan, then the DS3 has no disadvantage versus the P5WDH or any other board with respect to software fan control and quiet operation (very impt to me)?
