Feedback for what DS3 Compatible RAM

Hey guys. I've been doing alot of research into what RAM i want to get. I've been looking at OCZ, Gskill, Team, and Corsair. I want a 2GB kit, either 667 or 800 I guess and I don't want to spend much more than 200$ I am going to order RAM tonight since my conroe chip should be here this week.

I have the giga DS3 and am getting the E6400. I'm really need to building and OCing so this is all a learning experiance for me. I probally won't be OCing ram and cpu right away not until I comfortable with everything setup. Anyways I've been hearing horror stories of certain Gskill and other rams that won't boot up on the bios. I'm looking for RAM that definitely will as I dont want to have to rma anything (knocks on wood).

Been looking at Team 2gb kit but its just more expensive than I want to pay...but if you guys can convince me I might go with that.

Two OCZ Golds, are these good? Timing seem not the best but im sure its great ram non-the-less. This one and That one

finally this Gskill may or may not work with the DS3...has anyone tried it? It is reasonably priced and great timing, volts 1.8-2.0v Gskill 2GB

I want nice working ram so if its not a certain volt does that mean it may not work right away with the DS3? I'm afraid that if I get a higher volt RAM it won't work with the bios right away, at least with the Gskill that is.

Any and all feedback for choosing ram would be great, please excuse me as this is my first pc build and I am learning. Thanks!:banana:

Does anyone have a list of which popular and good brand RAM works nicely in the DS3? 2GB Kits.

For Corsair does the XMS2 kits work?

This should be a great high performance ram for gaming at a reasonable price.

that list doesnt contain any of the GOOD ram thats all blah ram

avoid any of the Gold OCZ kits no matter what it is if you planb on overclocking.

to be honest. grab the TeamGroup. i cant say if it boots ok with the DS3 since the DS3 uses 1.8v by default. until you manually change it.

gskill avoid until they can put out kits that boot on what most boards use for defualt. which is 1.8-1.9v

corsair has some 1.9v ddr800 i believe.

667 800 1066 it dont matter its just gotta be able to boot up properly using gigabytes default voltages of 1.8v.

will work in the DS3?? I really like this and will get TeamGroup if I can be sure it will boot with ds3...I dont have another DDR2 kit to manually change volts so the non 1.8v ram that has issues boots.

they say 1.8-1.9 volt...hopefully either of these would work great in the DS3!

On a side note....MY E6400 SHIPPED TODAY FROM ZZF! Just got the shipped email! I should have the chip on thursday the 3rd!

i'll buy geil 800mhz cl5 ram.

why ? 4 reasons:

- it's cheap
- timings make pretty no difference with conroe (at least anandtech says so)
- it uses only 1,8V
- it has a "safe-mode-spd", so on first booting it will set timings and speed to a value that will work with nearly every mobo out there.

-> so as long as nobody can say with 100% that ram xy will work and is better, i think this is the safest way.

i'm using 2gb kit mushkin green line ddr2 800 rated @ 5-5-5-15 @ 1.8v but it works great. I can run up to ddr900 @ 4-5-4-13 with 1.9v and up to ddr1070 so far @ 5-5-5-13 2.1v. All are stable dual PI 32m.
And it also has no problem booting at auto setting @ ddr 800 eventhough my ds4 detect at 3-5-5-15 in cpuz.
my spec as in my sig (except the ram)

holy crap... your friend with Xtreme RAM did very well...3.6ghz CPU clock speed what kind of cooling does he have?

I was considering the 667 RAM like your friend uses...if there any reason to spend 30$ more for the 800mhz xtreme ram? The 667 has lower timings.

Also this is going to be my first system built and my first time OCing stuff etc. I hear Conroe is fairly easy to OC and on the DS3. I also hear the 667 vs 800 doesn't make a big differance for OCing.

Should I just get the lower timing 667 Xtreme RAM and than would be able to OC 6400 CPU to at least 3ghz?

And if I try to OC the e6400 the stock HS won't be okay? I'm planning on getting the XP-90C+Fan, plus a 50mm fan on NB HS to cool mobo. My case is the nzxt lexa and already has 4 fans, two are
120mm front and back of case. and two are 80mm one on window and one of top of case. There is also room in the bottom of case to take of filter and put on another fan on bottom of case to suck out air I think. Its cool that this case is raised an inch or so up.
Or are you guys really sure that cheaper ram is fine...anyways I want ram that will last me the next 3-4 years at least through college so I don't have to replace them.

I am trying out 2x1gb ocz 6400 gold with my ds3. Currently having issues with one of the sticks not posting... the other sticks on the other hands, posts fine. Gonna see if I can get bad stick to post and do memtest.

Does anyone know if any of these ram have been confirmed to work at boot with the DS3? Or will only 1.8volt ram. 800 is all 1.9 or higher v.

We really need to confirm what nice ram for the DS3 works at boot...so many have seemd to be not working.

corsair TWIN2X1024-5400C4 worked for me. At least it booted windows XP. I am waiting for a few more parts until I officially put it together. I did bump up the memory voltage to +.1 since the DS3 supposedly defaults to 1.8 and I know this memory causes freeze ups if it isn't 1.9v.

RMA ocz 6400 gold and ordered corsair xms2 6400 cl5. Its not listed on gigabyte compatible memory but someone posted that gigabyte said it should work. When it arrives on friday, I'll let you guys know whether everything checks out.

Kinda gay when I attempted to get a replacement for ocz at newegg, they would ship only when they received the rma item.

Has anyone had issues with onboard raid? My windows install keeps freezing during installation...

I feel like im going to be spending 250$ for a 2GB kit of 1.8v 675 ram...when I would rather have a 800 ram kit...but they may not work.

Corsair seems to be only compatible ram I could find...I would rather get the TeamGroup but it has been reported not to work on DS3 because of its requirement of booting stock 1.8v.

i got direct word from tank guys that they are pretty positive the Teamgroup ram will NOT boot with the DS3 because it requires 2.2v. but he said he would double check with the TG crew and get back to me. i sure hope it boots cuz i was really hoping to get a kit of this stuff.

can anyone say it DOES work ? seriously dont say it does unless you have it in your DS3 now or have tested it to work.
by WORK we mean it has to boot with the bios all at defaults.

and the mushkin greenline huh wow looks like you got a great kit there.
i was looking at that stuff yesterday but didnt think it was any good. maybe i should re-evaluate them.
Irenic can you provide a link to the same ram on newegg or ZZF or someplace.

I agree. The Team Group DDR2-667 3-4-4-8 version was only $187 for a couple of months. It's now sold out because they decided they could charge more for the same product as long as they changed the sticker :)

Pssst, I have TeamGroup DDR2-667 3-4-4-8 RAM and it boots fine. I'm not alone :D

It doesn't require 2.2V. The range is 2V - 2.2V on the sticker for DDR2-667 or higher. It boots fine at 1.8V and DDR2-533.
